Hi

I have my K1 interview next week at the London Embassy, and aside from settling some nerves I have compiled below what I am taking. Does this look OK - with particular reference to I-134.

Interview checklist:

All contained within an A4 document wallet/seperated binder.

For me:

Packet 4 with interview date

MRV receipt

Passport

Birth certificate (long form) and photocopy

Police certificate and photocopy

3x US style passport photos

Copies of Packet 3 documents.

From Fiancee:

I-134 - filled out with blank income but c.$20,000 savings

Photocopy of 2010 Tax Return (no transcripts yet but just shows UK income anyway). No w2 to include as worked at UK school etc.

Letter explaning didnt file tax return previous years as no income as was unemployed/student.

Letter explaning just finished teahcing job in the UK to return to USA and applied for teaching positions in way of explanation of zero current income.

Letter from bank and 3x bank statements to verify savings. Statements verfiy any deposits.

From Co-Sponsor/Fiancee's dad:

I-134 - filled out. Interest Income from a trust fund in the income section ($56,000 * just taken from Gross adjusted indome from 2009 transcript). Savings of c$30,000 in normal savings account. Other Assets (Trust fund) has also been included - at few hundred thousand $'s. {he lives off the income/money from/in the trust fund account which is in his name}.

2009 Tax Transcript. (2010 is not available as they are still in process of filing, as they are awaiting further information).

Statement from trust account showing total amount, showing total income received/receivable to date and monies taken from.

Letter and statements from banks showing savings, and deposits. Deposits in last few months are in excess of income noted above.

Photocopy of birth certificate.

I would appreciate any comments.

Thanks

Looks good to me. London doesn't seem to make a huge deal of the I-134. If there are no additional docs that apply to you like divorce decree, military records, etc then you are good to go.

Thanks Nich-Nick. When you say that London doesn't seem to make a huge deal of the I-134 what do you mean?

If you read reports/reviews of this year's interviews, they have been accepting just one proof of income.(meaning many don't need tax returns + employer letter + pay slips + bank statements) So all the income documentation you are providing for your joint sponsor may not even go in the file. They just look at it briefly but never go over it or discuss it at the interview part. So I mean they don't make a huge deal of requiring massive amounts of documentation and discussion about it.

Thanks for clarification.

I did read the reviews here and think I have a fairly good idea of what to expect (famous last words!). I did however think that there was in depth discussion and reviewing of all i-134 documentation. I assumed this happened between the first interview window and the second, actual interview?

I wouldn't call in 'in depth'. I know for my other half, they asked for it, glanced at it, and stuck it in his file.

As Nich-Nick mentioned, London isn't super strict and all...

Thank you both for your comments. What do they do between the first document hand over and the interview?

Also... on question 7 of I-134 instead of employment would you put unemployed/retired as appropriate? or leave blank? or does it really not matter!

You could put unemployed/student. They may not even take your fiance's form and just go with the Dad's form. What you've gathered is good for the I-864 but you'll find London isn't as particular on the I-134 and may or may not keep all the stuff. The statement about not filing taxes and the sponsors form even with zero income is I-864, but London doesn't even require a tax return if you supply other proof. I sent a ton of financial evidence and they handed back most of it and the interviewer never saw it.

Document window: they just make sure you brought everything and organize the folder for the interview. You sit down and they pass it to the interviewer.

Interview: My theory is they glance at your papers while they call your number to come back. If all looks okay on the support, they don't ever mention the form I-134. They get a few questions from your I-129 in the file to ask like... how did you meet... what does the fiance do (work, school?)..does she have children... Nothing hard. It's a short conversation, no list of questions. You do finger prints, take oath, sign the form with the oath, and they say approved. It's that easy and quick.

Will the past 3 months bank statements be OK then. Each month with deposits of c.$80,000? As I mentioned previously it comes via a check from a trust fund.

Sorry - last minute nerves...!
