Hello Everyone,

I live in Saskatchewan and was really hoping NVC would send my K1 application to Vancouver. It left NVC Aug 3/11, but unfortunately it was sent to Montreal. Vancouver is much closer to me and would be much easier to do everything there.

I spoke with NVC and they suggested I contact both consulates to request a transfer. I have perused the VJ forums about this topic and I have seen some success with westerners transferring to Vancouver. I sent an email to both Montreal and Vancouver requesting a transfer. I also sent a separate email to Vancouver respectfully requesting that they accept my transfer given that I live in the west. I hope to hear a response soon - I'm not even sure if Montreal has received my application yet.

If anyone has any other advice for me, I would sure appreciate it!

Thanks very much,

2011 - 2013 - K-1, AOS, Lifting COnditions

2013 - 2014 - GC approved

2024 - Instead of renewing, why not go the full monty? (They actually made it really easy to do this)

Hope all goes well for you! Vancouver is so much faster than MtL at least when I used them living in SK. What part of SK are you from? My dislike was having to travel and do medical there as well ONLY place in the west!

Thanks Inky - It means a lot to have some reassurance. I will definitely post an update as soon as I hear from them! I had initially put "Calgary" as my Consulate site on my USCIS application; this was before I found the VJ site and realized that Calgary doesn't do K1s. My fiance and I were calling NVC every few days to try to intercept it and change the consulate, but they literally only touched it for a day before sending it to Montreal. When speaking with NVC the woman said "Everything goes to Montreal" so I'm wondering how many other westerners are having the same issue.

Thanks Minnew - I'm from Saskatoon. Say, can I get my medical done on the same day as the interview in Vancouver or do I have to schedule it separately? I guess I will find out when I get my packet 3 with the list of all the physicians...

I'm really appreciative of this forum and the VJ site - thanks everyone for all the wisdom and support! It's really nice to have a community of people to connect to during this lengthy, somewhat stressful process.

They need your medical to approve the visa.

Montreal has a turn around of at least 3 days for the medical because of the blood tests they take.

BUT you can get the medical done same day as the interview, they would just put a hold on the visa until they get and review your medical before approving you.

I'm originally from Regina!

You can do the medical and interview the same day but time wise can be tricky. As long as medical is in the morning and interview in afternoon at 1 pm. The medical in Vancouver is available same day I think after 2. So if you have your interview that day won't be able to pick up results until after( and check w clinic they are open). The consulate will have to give you a slip saying you need to come back and drop off medical. Of course this all depends what days of week wokibg does the medical and what day they schedule your interview. I remember requesting a range of specific dates for vancouver and they seemed accommodating.

I stayed in Vancouver 4 days, medical, then interview then day after to pick up visa. My cousin lives in Burnaby though near the skytrain, was helpful!

I forgot to add the medical and the consulate aren't too far from each other be a walk for sure but there are buses as well. It would be a trip to get back to woking and try to make it back before consulate closes. I didn't get out of consulate until almost 3:30 had lots of people in the waiting room!

Ahh yes I see - that makes complete sense. Well based on what you are both saying I think I'd like to have the medical ahead of time and be done with the whole thing after the interview...

I really need to just let Go and let God re: the consulates at this point :)

Oh and you don't have to stick around to pick up visa next day they will mail it!

I know I saw lots of the flood pictures! So sad! All the rainfall and snowmelt from up north did not really help the flooding situations here in NE either :(

I had my file transferred from Montreal to Vancouver. The people there were very helpful, even after the interview. I had a problem with the packet they send that needs to be taken and given the POE, it was damaged. I sent an email to them asking what I do and I got a phone call right away and we figured out what to do. I was very impressed.

I had my medical and interview the same day. I was out of the clinic by 8:30. I stayed at the Days Inn which is walking distance to both places, they also have a cab company that was there in a couple minutes to take me to the clinic. I didn't want to walk that early in the morning but walked back after it was over. The consulate is less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

I'm also from Saskatoon and am planning my first visit back for September! I can't wait.

Hi Jason & Shari

Oh that's great about your transfer! I hope my experiences goes as smoothly as yours did. I will wait and see what Vancouver says regarding the transfer - as you mentioned I'm sure I will hear from them first. Apparently their email response time is 48 hours while Montreal's response time is 2 weeks for emails. Apparently Montreal has also stopped taking phone calls as well. My fiance is going to try and contact Montreal tomorrow by phone and I will wait to hear from Van.

If we get the transfer approved I might also try the Days Inn - it would be nice to be within walking distance of the consulate. That's great about knowing the medical can be scheduled on the same day.

Ahh I feel encouraged by your story - thank you for sharing!

Update - Vancouver accepted the transfer! Like many others here they stated that it should have gone to them in the first place. They have requested my file from Montreal so right now they are waiting for the physical file. I received my packet 3 from Montreal, but I was told by Vancouver to wait for their packet 3, before doing anything. So in the meantime I will gather all documents necessary and wait for Van's packet 3.

Thanks Alina - that's good to know that things move fast once Vancouver gets a hold of things!
