our first package was received a few days ago, now i received any email stating that in the mail I will receive the I-797, what is this and what is next?

The I-797 is the Notice of Action form. That is USCIS in Texas letting you know you've been processed and your petition is being sent to Vermont or Califiornia.

Does this mean they checked it and we don't need to send additional info right now? Also what comes next after this step?

Just a whole lot of waiting. Nothing to do yet. In the meantime you can begin to look at the next steps and get an idea of what you will need to prepare for the consulate stage. Also, remember to continue to collect evidence of your relationship from the time you submitted the petition to the time your fiancee interviews.

No, this step just means they received your packet and cashed your check. It is basically just a receipt (the NOA1). Now, you wait until your petition gets adjudicated, then your petition will be checked over and you will find out if you are issued an RFE for anything, denied or approved. You will also get an I-797, Notice of Action when approved, which is known on VJ as the NOA2. That notice is important. It will have the beneficiary's A# on it, and a copy of it will be needed in the future when doing adjustment of status.
