Settled in Mission Viejo 'cos I have family there... I moved back from the UK in February of this year and it was easier to settle back in to US life with family nearby. It's good for my other half 'cos he's involved in the equine community, and having the South County horses nearby is convenient. I work up the road in Irvine for a technology company - so have a brilliant commute! Can't beat the 10 minute drive in the morning!!!

My other half's family just moved to Dorset (from Berkshire before that Newmarket before that Northern Ireland before that Somerset...!)... not sure where abouts exactly, but I hear it's lovely!!

That's a nice place to live! What do you guys do for work? I'm kind of stuck here, I want to move but the job's retirement is a good deal so I will stick it out, especially in this economy.

Karen is from Scotland but presently lives in Christchurch, Dorset. It's about 2 hours to London.

And when she came here for a visit she fell in love with root beer. :-)

Hi all,

I'm in the same boat about the interview, all paperwork sent in and recieved on the 8th of July then medical on the 21st. Phoned last week and they checked and said my paperwork was being proccessed. They also said it takes up to 7 weeks from when the paperwork is recieved to be issued an interview date, 4 weeks for the paperwork 3 weeks to arrange the interview date . 7 weeks is today and still nothing so I'l be phoning back and emailing next week. I'l let you know what they say.

So, my question for you guys is: How do you know when your packet has been lost or misplaced? How long did you wait to send another packet? We have delivery confirmation that the London embassy got our packet three on Tuesday, however, there is no note of it in the DOS system. I know this is typical, but how long do you wait until you decide it's been lost and send another?

The timing on the forums here appears to be about 20 days until they get it on average. We were going to wait and call on the 25th day but they sent us a letter on the 20th day. After 25 days I'd be concerned and definitely at 30 days.

GRRRRRRRRR!

Ok looking at this I'm phoning in the morning as I have a feeling ive been lied to about the waiting time to recieve an interview date.

I was told 2 weeks ago when I phoned that there is a 7 WEEK WAITING PERIOD and I should hear about my K1 interview then. After reading your posts it sounds like I was lied to by them and this really is making us both upset. I know they have all the paperwork and medical papers so why the delay when people putting theres in after are already issued with interview dates!. Something is so not right with there proccessing procedures. I'l update this once ive phoned.

I doubt they lied. They do not know what mail they will get in one day. Remember all the people saying if Bush was re-elected they'd move to Canada? Well Canada printed tons of immigration forms. Know how many people moved solely because of Bush's re-election? FIVE. So obviously that's far off from the estimate.

We have perfect times in America for garage sales (spring), car shopping (after Memorial Day), house shopping (after July 4th), and so on. Demand fluctuates.

One day no one wants to move to America, the next day they get tons of applicants. There is no quota or limit, they get what they get. And they do the best they can with the staff that they have. If enough people vent that seven weeks is too long maybe they will add people. I doubt K1 processing has it's own staff.

If you worry about accountability, then when you call and talk to a person, ask their name and their supervisor's name. That way you can have a reference point, and if they know you may have the boss's ear, they will think twice before speaking the company line.

The staff may expect seven weeks, but someone gets sick, takes time off, etc, and it goes to nine weeks. Or a new guy comes in and there is overlap and it goes to 5 weeks.

In summary, I do not believe any of us can phone up the embassy, ask them to work faster, and then hear them say, "Gee why didn't we think of that! Thank you for the idea!"

At least it is moving in the right direction.

July 8th? Yes you have a gripe I believe. I wonder how their system allows for loss of mail once it is inside the embassy.
