I finally got the new RFE and they want a copy of my birth certificate??!? I'm happy because that's an easy request to fulfill, but it's odd because I did send in copies of all my passport pages and I didn't know they would need both. Is somebody at USCIS confused? Has anyone else had a birth certificate request?

Very mysterious... well I will do whatever they want! Firstborn son...

I guess they did not like the copies of the pages in the passport.

Anyway make sure that the birth certificate is the full form type with seal, and copy both sides of the certificate even if the back side is blank, just include the blank copy with a note on it stating that it is the reverse side of the certificate.

Good luck and hope the process is not slowed much by the RFE!

Not usual to ask for a birth certificate when one has already submitted their passport to prove US citizenship but not totally uncommon either. If they feel they need further evidence of anything that you submit with the petition they will ask for it, just as they have. Also, just check to make sure they are asking for a photocopy or if they are actually wanting a copy/original certified.

I too was asked for my birth certificate. my father never registered my birth so I informwd them about it and they asked me to send some other doc showing birth, so i sent those in and they rejected them. then they asked again for BC, again i told them i dont have so again i send more docs and parent's affidavit(which they said i could send) again they rejected and asked for BC! after three months of this game they finally tell me my father can register the birth now and we can send it in soon as i get it. Cant say i trust them after all that. They wasted 3 months when they could have told me this in the beginning. If they dont take it then i'm at a loss cause I have sent in all i can possibly send.

Don't forget to write in RED ' RFE ' on the front of your return envelope, Also you may want to include you reciept number as well and send it USPS express so you can get a tracking number. That's what I did and CSC received everything in a few days with no problems. Good luck .

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

An easy RFE to fix, and hopefully the last step before your approval! Good luck on your journey!

Also, I highly suggest you follow William33's oft given advice, mark the envelope you return the RFE in with:

RFE and # in red, front and back of the envelope.

gugu,

Yours is an entirely different situation, not comparable. You are the visa applicant and you were asked for the BC by the consulate. correct?

I think nfs is the USC and is being asked for the BC by the USCIS in conjunction with the petition.
