How many of you have seen National Geographic's Locked Up Abroard... episode called "Forbidden Love" ??

I must admit that was certainly an emotional episode for those of us who have sweethearts in the Philippines! Yes, I was rooting for David and was especially excited when he never gave up on Cynthia. The dude could have easily left the Philippines and forgot about the whole thing. The islands do have it's backwards form of law and order and I have had a taste of it too. Just a few pesos gets you out of most everything. Anyone have any odd episodes of their own in the Philippines?

I saw the episode...Can't relate but I will say it was one of the worst in the series.

What did she do, about 2 days in jail before being bonded out and escaping...Most of the other episodes are incomparable where they are imprisoned for 3 to 10 years....

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

Can someone tell us what the content of the story is? I doubt if I can relate if it has to do with jail/police, etc. But I'd like to know what the story was/is about anyway.

Girl is a native Filipina. She has 2 kids with her husband (native Filipino). They don't get along. He is abusive mentally and physically and a little on the crazy side. They separate (but not legally).

Guy is visiting from England. Meets girl and they fall in love. Her crazy husband finds out. At one point chases them down in a truck with a gun. They are scared for their lives of him.

Girl gets pregnant.

Crazy husband has her and him arrested for infidelity.

Husband is released quickly (can't remember why). Girl does some time in jail and then gets bonded out.

She buys a fake passport and flees the country with him while out on bond.

If you want to see a much better episode from the Philippines watch this one:

There are quite a few westerners in Filipino jails, money won't always get you out. A Brit by the name of Kevin Taylor is a good example of this. He and his Filipina wife ran a Visa and Travel Consultancy business in the Philippines and are accused of running a recruitment business instead by a disgruntles employee. They basically locked him and his wife up and threw away the key but in the process bled him and his family back in England dry of all their monies. They have released the wife realizing they could get no more money from her family so now are focusing solely on Kevin.

Get caught with drugs or get caught (or set up) with a underage girl and you are going to spend a very long time in jail.

When out on my motorcycle I always carry 200 peso next to my license, if I get pulled over this will get me out the ticket but if I were every to get in a accident, even if the other party is involved is at fault it would cost me big money. My neighbor (Canadian) there was hit by a motorcycle while driving his multicab, the motorcyclist was on the wrong side of the road, passing a bus, driving at night with no headlights and they said it was my neighbors fault. Their reasoning is if the wasn't in the Philippines the accident would not have happened, the police actually said that to him. He had to pay for the guys hospital bills, buy a new motorcycle and pay for his family's expenses until he could work again.
