Okay so I haven't changed my last name yet since we have been married (Its only been 4 months). I was going to go tomorrow to the Social Security Office to change it but then I realized, my flight to and from Ireland have my maiden name, my passport has my maiden name, and our cruise trip is booked under my maiden name. So If I were to change my name tomorrow should I change it on my passport or just leave it for the time being so that it matches my airline tickets and cruise tickets? Thanks

International trips and cruise tickets need to be booked in the passport name. Since everything is already done and its really hard to change it all after the fact you might as well just leave it till your trip is finished.

I am a USC but I changed my name after I got married. I travel abroad all the time but as long as the passport and plane ticket match you won't have a problem. On another note, I did find out if your passport was issued less than a year for a USC you can have your name changed on your passport free of charge sometime after the travel you mention in your post.

Thanks for all the info guys...I guess i should wait, I was just wondering if I changed my name at the Social Security Office and DMV but didnt change it on my passport if that would be okay or if I HAVE to change it on my passport right away. I know it sounds stupid to not want to wait, but I want to have the same last name as my daughter most importantly is why.

Exactly. You can certainly change your name with Social Security but if you change your passport name, you won't be able to use those plane tickets and unless they are fully refundable, it will be costly.

Only if you show an ID with the wrong name, when attempting to board a flight.
