Interview date issue

Hello everyone. Firstly I have to say although this is my first post, this site is great and I have been a long time reader.

I received my interview date for my K1 a week ago but they have arranged it for just 5 days before we are due to wed. This is obviously a problem for getting things organised, for example we have to be in PA to meet the catholic priest and apply for a license a little before the date. So I need to have it brought forward, even a week earlier would do!

I rang the helpline and they gave me the LondonIV e-mail address, immediately e-mailed but have since heard nothing from them.

Has anyone had any experience in this, it's stressing me out like mad!

Many thanks

Welcome!

Delays like this is why we recommend never to make wedding plans until the visa is in hand. Even if your interview went well, they will keep your passport and send it out by post, which can easily mean it'll take two weeks after the interview until you get it back. There could also be an issue at the interview which means you need to come back or face additional security checks after the interview, adding days, weeks or even months to your timeline.

So my best recommendation is to delay the wedding, not bring the interview forward. That being said, how long has it been since you emailed them? Remember it's the summer holidays and the 4th of July was this week, so staffing levels will be low. If it's been more than 10 working days, I'd email again.

Hi there, Firstly a few questions... When is your interview date? When is your wedding? Is this a big planned thing with caterers etc? Also when did you send the email? All important to help you out

To answer your question yes I did email them for the same reasons. MY DS-2001 had the travel and wedding dates on the cover letter. Did yours? In the end I emailed them with the code and requested a bump up due to the dates mentioned on my cover letter. It was set for the 25th they moved it to the 13th. He is due to fly out on the 29th and wed on the 6th of August.

You wont hear till Monday at the least now. I heard back the next day but someone else on here didn't hear back for a week and didn't get a date change but their request and situation was not the same as yours.

Thanks for the reply guys. The wedding date, August 13th, is on the forms we had to fill in so they should be aware of it yes. Unfortunately, a lot of my family have booked flights etc so the date cannot be moved. The interview date is set for the 8th.

Really hope they can bring it forward, I spoke to the helpline and they said to e-mail again and if I didn't hear anything to call them back and they'd try to fix something.

I'd wait and see what happens this week. If you don't hear back by say Thursday I'd call again. Do you have a flight booked?

I personally don't have a flight booked because when I got my H1B visa for a job I had, I remember someone said the embassy would not like it and would take it as presumptuous. My parents, sister, aunt, uncle, best friend all have flights booked though.

Well keep us posted on what happens please. We booked a flight ourselves but the cost of flights was on the rise and seats were dwindling. My thoughts were if worst case scenario happened we would pay the change fee to switch the date and still pay less than if we booked a few days before. Best of luck, I got my fingers crossed tight for you both! :)

When you phoned them and they gave you the Londoniv email address did they not give you an email code too? They gave us a code which I think is case specific and may expire and we put the code in the subject of the email we sent. The body of the email said this (minus the edits obviously for privacy)

SUBJECT:

subject was the code I received

EMAIL:

Case Number: LNDxxxxxxxxx

Beneficiary: Name Here (Passport #: xxxxxxxxx)

Petitioner: Name Here

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to inquire about the possibility of rescheduling our interview to an earlier date. Our wedding is August 6th and (Fiance's Name) plans to fly out on the 29th of July. Currently the embassy interview date is set for the 25th of July and we fear that the Visa will not arrive in time for his travel arrangements. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Pretty sure a code is required. I had to change my interview date, and the first time I phoned I wasn't told anything about a code. The second time I phoned (after waiting weeks for a reply) they told me the code, and refused to believe it was possible that someone would have told me to email without one. So I assume that person is still working there

Thanks for the replies everyone. I got an e-mail this morning re-scheduling my appointment for a week tomorrow which is a huge relief.

Is there a link on here for a checklist for the interview? I dread the thought of not bringing something to what is the most important interview of my life!

it's been 3 weeks since i returned my packet 3 and you know how this process gets you panicking at the slightest wait
