Visiting U.S. while waiting for interview

My fiancee is putting her house up for sale in preparation for the move down once her visa is approved. I know this is risky, but with our circumstances it is what we need to do. If the house sells prior to our interview she would like to come down and stay with me until the interview. Does she need to apply for a visitors visa or is that not necessary if the stay is under 90 days? I mean she has come down to visit for weeks at a time without formally applying for a visitors visa, but never for a few months. Does anyone have any experience doing the same thing?

Thanks,

-Paul and Jennifer

No visa is necessary, but she will need to show strong ties to Canada at the border. This is what we're planning do do for most of July, so we're hoping that my interview confirmation will be a strong tie in the eyes of the border officer.

Ah yes, and I suppose if we get a plane ticket to Montreal for the interview that could also be proof of ties. Although we probably don't want to get a ticket until we are satisfied with the interview date in case something opens up earlier.

A return ticket/ticket to Montreal would definitely be a good tie, I hope it all works out for you!! :) I'm going to be trying to cross on July 7th via the Bluewater Bridge at Port Huron, I can let you know how that goes.

I'm going down on Friday with a one way ticket (*GASP), but I am hoping that a letter from my employer, my interview appointment and an invitation to my engagement party in Toronto is sufficient - but I'm pretty paranoid!

My fingers are crossed

I visited my husband in the states and stayed with him for two months til I had to return for my interview. I went through pearson and after telling the initial officer how long I would be gone, I was called into the side office of customs/security. The only proof of ties I had were my packet 3 and 4 letters, a print out of my interview confirmation I had scheduled online which had the date, and a return ticket for a date before the interview. They let me through after seeing those documents. I'm not sure if the return ticket was the key thing that convinced them to let me through. I too would have preferred to not book one yet to see if I could've snagged an earlier interview date... Anyway Good luck !

Just as an FYI.... Canadians don't require visas to visit the US, and their maximum time of stay is six months. Link
