Interview Date

Well, we finally received a date today, a little later than I would have liked, but I'm not going to complain. Interview date is scheduled for Nov 7th.

Quick question, the 7th is on a Tuesday, do you folks think it would be safe to book flights for both of us back to the US Friday at night (flight would leave Rio around 11:00pm)?

I really want to go out there for the interview, but would hate to have to have her fly back home, then fly here. I'm limited on days off from work as well, so I can't really miss more than a week.

Medical on Monday, Interview on Tuesday, Fly back Friday night (late)... does this sound feasble?

the above does sound feasible but you'll both be wore out. make sure there are no holidays during that week as that would screw up everything.

Well first of all congratulations on your interview date yay!!

Now if it's safe, I guess it isn't 100% safe, nothing is, but we're doing pretty much the same, our interview is tuesday and we have bought our tickets the next saturday.

Well... really depends.. we never know

But as you can see, I had my passport with the visa on Thursday and my interview was on Tuesday.. so.. it is possible

Thanks everyone... I guess this is when the most stress comes into play huh?

She may have to go alone, because I'm having a hard time putting flights together, and don't really want to pay 1,500 a ticket, which for us to return together, is looking more and more like what I would almost have to pay. We can so use that money better when she is here, like buying her clothes for winter etc.

My biggest concern really was her POE, and if she happened to miss her flight from Miami/Atlanta to Chicago. She speaks almost no English, so I would hate for her to be put in an awful situation like that. But, I found a one way flight from Rio to Sao Paulo, straight to Chicago, so I think this might work. That way I can just drive down to the airport and wait for her at baggage claim after she goes through custom, and she can call me on my cell, or have the Custom Officer call me if there is any problem, considering I'll actually be there.

I really want to go... but need to be wise as I know there will be a lot of expenses right when she gets here.

Someone mentioned that the Dr. across the street from the Consulate does the Medical, and gives the results the same day... can anyone confirm this for sure?

Sorry I'm ramblin' but I guess I'm just excited, and more nervous now than I have been this entire process.

Congrats on getting your interview date! It seems like the lines are really long lately for the consulate, huh?

If they have no delays in giving the visa back (always takes 2 days, unless something wrong happens) you should be fine to fly home on Friday. Try to get dates that can be changed though.

Thanks Accourding to my fiance, there is a Holiday on the 2nd... but that shouldn't come into play considering she won't be in Rio until the 4th anyway.

you always could meet her in miami. might be an idea for you to send her the money to buy the ticket to miami and you meet her there with the tickets from miami to chicago.

Well, it looks like I may have found a solution... unfortunetly it doesn't include me going out for the interview... but I think it will work out.

I found a flight from Rio direct to Atlanta (7.5 hour flight.. WoW!) I will end up driving out to Atlanta (about 12 hour drive) to be there when she arrives. We'll catch a Hotel for the night in Atlanta, and drive back the next morning (nice Sunday drive, and she'll get to see a bit of the good ol US).

I don't mind driving, I do it all the time as part of my job... so no biggie there, and it will make me feel a lot better not having to worry about her missing a connecting flight. Will also be nice to be at the airport in case she has problems with Customs, they can just call my cell and I'll be right there.

So, I think we'll be alright... we just have to confirm that the Doctor can do the Exam and give us the results later the same day before I book the ticket.

There's a direct flight from Sao Paulo to Chicago, from United Airlines. I used it once when visiting.

Ooo lord it's 1,800 just for that, tack on another 125 from Rio to SP, and with taxes thats 2,000.. yikes!!!

Can you say ROAD TRIP to Atlanta???

I'm still very very happy with my 1500 reais ticket to San Juan using Copa Airlines and flying through Panama rather than using American Airlines flying through Miami for 3000 reais.
