I think this is a good thing they set limit to number of K1s...

I absolutely agree on putting the limitation of the K-1 visa. Even with that, some people are still trying to abuse the system and affect others with a legitimate reason to use the system.

I wasn't abusing the system otherwise, we would have had RFE's and the like. Had I not been abused and abandoned after being diagnosed with cancer, I would have fought for the marriage. I preferred not to end up dead though. I know there are folks that abuse the system, but that is not my intent here.

thanks for your input.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to post a new topic to gather feedback from others and their experiences. The short story...I filed for a K-1 in 2005 it was approved and we married, but the marriage ended within weeks (mutual more my issues). I filed again in 2007 w/waiver and it was approved. After 4 years my second marriage ended in divorce.

I'm on the verge of making plans to move overseas, but in the event that is delayed. What are my chances with a third immigrant visa over a 7-year period? I would appreciate any sound and constructive advice.

many thanks in advance.

There is no limit. If you've done a K-1 within the last two years you have to send in a waiver letter, but there is no limit.

MCat did it with five tries, so you're no the world champion?!

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

For your information they are not both from same country and marriages ended BEFORE 10 year greencards...if you want to whole story so you can make an educated post, ask....do not attack me. I hope your wife doesn't do the same to you!!!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thank you Casprd that is a good point. My ex's are from different countries and not related in any way at all. I am thinking about the K-3 versus K-1 route, but just that I would prefer having the 3-month window to help adjust before nuptuals. I didn't do that first time...I just scheduled the marriage right away. I believe that time is important.

Again, I appreciate all the helpful feedback. Thank you all.

If you were sincere about the statement bolded above then you're not ready for a K1 visa. You should be absolutely positively sure that you want to marry before you send the petition. Three months is not enough time to "adjust before nuptuals", and that's not the purpose of the three month window. It's enough time to arrange an informal wedding - that's all.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!
