So I am a little confused about the POE process any help would be great. I am looking at flying into the states from Edmonton to Sandiego with a stop over in either Calgary or Seattle depending on the flights. The packet you get after visa approval goes to whom? Do I tell them when I am checking into Edmonton or not until I get to the states? I am so confused about the process. Also because of the lay over I will probably have I will need to give myself extra time for questioning and such what is the standard anyone know? Please help ease my mind and confusion!

The packet goes to the customs officer when you are passing the US customs to get to the US gates for your plane. 2-3 hours for visa processing generally.

Your POE is Edmonton since you are going from there to the US directly you will be doing customs in Canada before entering the USA.

You give over the envelope at the place you go through customs. I just checked here: http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/contacts/preclear_locations.xml and the Edmonton airport has a customs preclearance, so at the first airport, you'll be handing over the envelope there while answering any questions the customs officer asks you. You should arrive at the airport earlier than usual for your flight as customs can take awhile since you've got a visa.

And you don't need any extra time at your layover. Just enough time to get from one airplane to the next. There's no questioning done after you go through customs at Edmonton.

I always say ask for it the same day, BUT expect a no answer!!! If you don't ask, for sure the answer is No!! Soem have managed to get it the same day or next, so doesnt hurt to ask. If one had a valid reason, you chances are better! Having ticketrs booked for next day is prob not a valid reason as they tell you not to book anything!

At the Top ofd the screen you see REVIEWS, click on there!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I will try,,,but sometimes situations involving "authority" and as important as this I get emotional, scared and so unnecessarily nervous...I guess I will keep your advice in the back of my mind during the interview....you are right- no harm in asking, again you just never know how they could interpret my request...

They truly are not scary people. I laughed quite a bit during my extremely short interview!! The interview itself is very quick!!
