Just gathering my K-1 paperwork for my fiancee', was wondering if anyone else has a fiancee' from the Slovak Republic? I'd appreciate any advice/stories you may have to share. I've searched a lot and doesn't seem that Slovakia is as well represented as some of the other countries. Thanks for any contributions!

Hello Lucie, and thank you for your reply.

We are about 80% complete with our initial paperwork, the waiting is killing me, lol. I cannot wait to submit it so I can begin the obsessive check for touches. At this point I don't have any questions but that may change later (ok, I'm sure I'll have questions, ha ha). I read your timeline, it appears you arrived in the U.S. on a B-1 visa so we may be taking different routes to be with our loved ones. I've heard that the embassy in Prague is a little difficult in some posts but in others it appears to be no big deal. I guess it just depends on the day, probably the same with every embassy. What is your experience with them?

I purchased a ticket this week to meet my fiancee' in Prague on 12/27. I've heard wonderful things about the city and I'm really looking forward to it. Spending New Year's Eve should be a great, great time. Last year at New Year's I was horribly sad because I was without her, so this year's is far better.

I'll post any questions I may have in this thread, and thank you again for your response. Best of luck to you!

Sounds good... ;)

keep copies of everything you submit. From what I have heard and read here you will need them again when filing for AOS.

Back 2 years ago when we got married we did not even know about K visa and all that.

We went to the Czech embassy, back in summer 2004 to ask what should we do if we consider to get married but they did not really tell us anything constructive. They definitely did not mentioned the fiancée visa... ironic...

Anyway the process is exactly the same accept you just get married here as a snap decision and then file.

Honestly it is not better or worse, it's not illegal... you just need to figure out what works best for you. Now I know so much more about the whole immigration thing it's funny.

I am glad you will be there for New Years that is great. Prague is beautiful especially in the winter time. At least I think so.

Well good luck to you both... gather a lot of patience you will need it.

And feel free to email me anytime at lprenoveau@gmail.com (that goes for your fiancée as well).

This whole thing it’s quite hard sometimes. It’s nice to know that there are people out there in the same situation with their families far away.

Besides it also helps to speak to someone in your native language as well. I know I have been missing that a lot as long as I don’t have any Czechs/Slovakians close by.

Again best of luck to you both

Luc
