hello to all of you wonderful people , i would like to know how long a US citizen can live abroad ? an will there be any hassle at the POE when returning .. is there any time limit to return ??

Depends on the rules of the country you are in living in. The US has no rules about living abroad and impacting your citizenship- if that is what you were thinking.

There are US citizens who have never lived in the US-- it's not a requirement.

To the other good answers let me add, whether or not there will be any hassle on return, a lot will depend on what one did while they were away.

As I recall, there were a few Americans who were found to be fighting on behalf of the Taliban when some excitement began in Afghanistan a few years back, and I believe they were hassled on return.
