Police reports - panic!

Helloooo, I'm having a major stress over my police reports, I'm convinced I've applied for the wrong one and I'm worried...

You're meant to apply to your local police place, and they then send this off to Scotland yard where they look on the police national computer... Why are you meant to apply to your local police place if they're going to be looking on a national computer?? I got my receipt and it's got Metropolitan police all over it, but I don't live in London and never have...

I also have a university address which is in a different region to where I am living now, do I need a separate police certificate again or can I just get them to add an address onto it?

Please Please Please help me on this, I'm panicking like anything, hoping to get packet three any day now and if I've aplied for the wrong police certificate I'll have a massive delay on my hands through my own stupidity!!

Hi There Maria

If this is any help - i went into my local police station (Nottinghamshire), where they gave me a leaflet on 'Subject Access'. This leaflet had an address or phone number to contact to get the Subject Access application forms.

I phoned the number (Notts Police) and the lady sent me the application form.

The Subject Access form will ask you to list ALL previous addresses - For a K1 Visa you need addresses to go back to age 18.

You post off your form with the £10 fee. I received my reciept from Notts Police with a note saying it would take about 40 days - and received my Police Certificate about 40 days later.

I would say that if you did not make your cheque out to the Met Police - then you should call them to see what the deal is.

As far as i know, you usually get the receipt back from your Local Police Authority (Nottinghamshire in my case) - as I made the cheque out to them.

Just call the number on your receipt and put your mind at rest!

Hope it all works out.

There should be a phone number for the Met's Data Protection, every time I've spoken to them they've been most helpfull.

I'll see if I can root it out in a moment

is there a phone number I can ring?

If you have any further queries about your application please ring the following telephone number.

In the UK: 020 7161 3500

Just explain that the visa process is very confusing! I'm sure they'll understand

Hi Maria,

I just applied for my police certificate.

I printed out the form from the Sussex Police website (where I live).

There were TWO options:

1) a police certificate for your locality, which means information on any petty crime you may have committed in your area.

2) a national police certificate with data taken from the PNC which data for a crime you may have committed ANYWHERE in the UK. (Think you know that, re-reading your post above).

On thw PNC form you are required to list all the addresses where you've lived for over 6 months or something, can't quite remember. I do know that the police certificate will only be accurate if you have supplied all your addresses and dates when you were living there.

I sent off for the PNC data certificate, not the local one. It costs £10 and you have to supply ID and proof of address. I sent off my NHS card, a letter from HM Customs & Revenue with my address on it, and a copy of my marriage certificate since I only got married 3 months ago and some of my docs (like NHS card) are still in my maiden name.

Hope this helps.

Phew, I have done it right...

"You have applied for a copy of what is held on the Police NATIONAL

Computer, this covers UK addresses. Your response will say it there is

nothing known about you on the Metropolitan Police (or words to that

effect), so do not worry. Lots of people apply to the Mets as their

form is on line and Hampshire Constabulary's is not."

Thank god...

I also asked them to check the progress on it today but they said that since the receipt was only 30/8 I should call up in a couple of weeks if I haven't got it. So hopefully I will have it in plenty of time for my interview! Whenever that will be... Where is packet three...

Should be here within the next week then hopefully! Did the embassy ever tell you they had received it from the NVC? I tried emailing them but got an email back saying 'blah blah if we did not ask you to email us then we will not reply...' charming!!

Maria x

That's their standard reply. But no, they never told me they received it. However, when I emailed them telling them of a birthdate error, they replied nicely & swiftly!

That's nice :).

I know I've asked this a million times, but when I send packet three back I include

DS230

DS156

DS156K

DS157 (if they ask for it)

The DS156K says that to apply for the visa all the evidence, birth certificates, police reports have to be attached, but I just have to bring these to the interview right?

yep, that's what we did! Only the forms & checklist, no evidence sent. Don't forget the checklist!
