Oh, I agree, if she still has the option, to go for a picture with ears exposed.

But I didn't realize in order to get the correct information I had to go to the embassy website for Poland rather than the U.S. Department of State, y'know?

I had just wanted to see an official link somewhere, that's all.

Guess we'll see if I get an RFE because I'm pretty sure my hair obscures my ears (thick & curly, it's lucky if it doesn't obscure/eat the photographer. ;) )

The guide says that with glasses, one should ensure that the photograph doesn't show a great reflection or shine from the glasses. (No bright spots obscuring your face.)

Of course, who knows what the travel guidelines in East Uzbekistan or Outer Mongolia say. ;)

Again, information varies, just as the Official who decides if the picture is acceptable or not.

If it were me, I would prefer to err on the side of caution. Do what you think is right for you.

I'd leave the glasses off and pull back my hair. I should clarify I'm not expressing frustration with anyone but the conflicting information offered by various official sources.

That would be great :)

Just for information sake: my husband had all his passport photos made without his glasses and his ears showing. We were told it was regulation.

Again, just what we were told. :)

Use these facts as you wish .....

My passport photo shows my entire left ear covered, and 30% of my right ear covered. This passport has allowed my in and out of six countries, problem-free.

A fellow K1 petitioner in my finace's country reported that the passport photo of the beneficiary was good enough to get through CSC, but was not good enough for the interview at the Consulate. They made him go down the street and have a "formal" passport photo taken before issuing the visa.

6/29 - NEW I-129 mailed to CSC

7/21 - NOA1 issued

9/21 - finally ... my first touch!!

9/21 - NOA2 issued

I captured picture for visa. As it is needed - 5x5 cm.

Now I read rules about photos. Thats there has to be able to see my ears.

There cant see my ears in this picture. Can it be problem?

Which rules said that ears had to be seen? Neither my passport styled photo for the initial petition was such nor was my passport photos for my visa that I submitted. The service centers seem also to be less strict in their requirements, hence passport-style photos. From reading posts many have had variances and been accepted at petition filing stage including size of photos (my husbands was smaller). Visa stage at consulates will be stricter and require a passport photo (not passport-style), but still.....the instructions do not state anything specific about ears and I agree in that some of the photo samples indeed have the ears covered. http://travel.state.gov/pdf/Photo%20Guide%2010-01-04.pdf

What about glasses in the pic? Yes or no? I heard so and so....thanks in advance

Instructions state (from the above link)

Eyeglasses should be worn if normally used by the subject

I almost wonder if the "both ears being visible" isn't just their way of reinforcing that the person must be forward facing, as opposed to a profile shot or shot at an angle that may cast a shadow on one side of the face or cover-up any prominant facial features.

And yet, then we get a post like this: Take Your Glasses Off

While I've not re-dug through the passport webpage, I don't recall reading anything about wardrobe restrictions (unlike the smiling restriction). And yet, I saw a kid get bounced from the Passport Agency when we were there because he had a t-shirt on that had a camouflage print background. 8 years old, and the agent told the mom they had to go re-do the pix becasue 'we can't have anything military'.

<shrug> All you can do is do your best and re-do if asked.

If you look at the picture guide on the department of state website it shows glasses, it indicates that they should not glare. If you wear glasses to see all the time then probably should be worn if you are the type that only wears them to read then probably not.

It could be. In Brazil, they're extremely picky with this. They absolutely want both ears showing. If they don't, they'll ask you to have other pictures taken on the day of the interview.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

I think it must mean that your head is not turned one way or another so either ear is hidden. I don't think it applies to hairstyles covering the ears at all. My ears are not visible in my passport photo even though I have very short hair in it, and in the photo I sent off with my packet has one ear visible and the other covered by long hair. If I get flak from it I will post in the RFE's thread.

This is why I wish there was ONE set of regulations for passport style or passport pictures. One person is told this, one person is told that. We were told no glasses and ears showing (where we had the passport pictures made), hence the statement "what we were told".
