They can be quite helpful when they can do something about it. Unfortunately when you are in background check not even a Senator can do anything but await the results.

I know you're frustrated, good luck to you too!

After reading this post and after what happened to me and my application, I can only wonder just how crazy this whole process is. They approved my application, and it got sent back. It turns out the Vermont service center made a mistake and did not do half of what they were supposed to do. Now I read that they can not even get a application to the NVC. People should not have to contact their Senator to find out about a simple application. I am finding out that it is easier and better to back to work back overseas then it is to deal with this goverment.

No in cases like that they should just be able to conact both sides and they should be able to track where your package is. But the thing is the organizations don't even communicate with each other. You call NVC they say we don't have it call USCIS. You call USCIS they say we approved your application and sent it to the consulate. I check with the consulate they don't have it. I contact congressman and its almost like a couple days and then figure it out.

No the government has a lot of flaws it, thats what happens when people get power and get corrupt and government organizations won't talk to each other . But the thing is what government in the world doesn't have problems?

So are you are saying that cause VSC did to you, you are going to give up on your fiance. I hope not but good luck to you whatever you decide!

Lookywhatifound, Are they sending out field officers to check our backgrounds or using computers. I can not imagine why it would take so long to do background checks on people with no criminal record that have lived in the same place most of their lives and they have all your identifying information.

There has to be something I do not know. This is the age of modern technology. Yep, I am frustrated just has this OP is because this is our lives. And time is very precious. It doesn't matter how old or young you are, you never know if there will be a tomorrow so I would like to spend my today with my husband. They make that impossible because you have to have income to bring your spouse to America and I would never ask anyone to support me so I certainly am not going to ask someone to sign to support my spouse.

Do not mean to go on and on. Sorry. And you are such a nice person and give great advice. I appreciate you Lookywhatifound.

Who the senator? If he's not available can't you ask that to the congressman in your district?

No, I will never give up on her. I am just saying that it is easier for me to work outside of the States and bring her with me. It is a lot easier dealing with some countries getting Visas than the US. I really wish we will have some kind of immigration reform sometime in my life time. Also, It takes about 2-4 weeks for the standard FBI name and address back ground check.

He is Senator Mike Rodrigues. He is my aunt's brother in law. He'll know who to put me in contact with if he himself can't do anything. He was very nice and assured me he would do what he can to help. I'm just hoping and praying that the amount of time to get this straigtened out is closer to the one month mark rather than an extra half a year or over a year. That is so crazy. I can't afford to go down to see Ramon, we need to wait until he comes up. Just when we were getting really excited about the idea that he would be here in July-ish, now it could be so much longer. Not cool. Being away so long is so hard. I haven't even heard his voice in like a month. And haven't seen his face on video in about 2. AAH!!

You're the USC? If you can work abroad yes you can do that but you better give it some thought. Who knows what kind of immigration reform it will be and how it will help you, if at all. You can't depend on it. You're in the middle or ending stages of the visa process why give it up now. Give it up when you know its time to give it up. good luck!

Should I wait to send down the affidavit stuff until the petition is located?? My dad and I might have to redo all that stuff if it is going to take them a lot more time to find the thing.

Yep, I agree the FBI name and address back ground check should not take that long even if you have a common name because they have our birthdates and our ID numbers such as social security and passport numbers. i am tired of the excuses.

I guess you should wait to hear what the senator can tell you first cause if its quick they will be able to tell you soon.

The lady at the Senator's office said she can try to make some calls and do what she can, but basically if it's lost in some box somewhere, it's not like she can exactly go down and look for it herself.

Meanwhile I called up NVC. Still hasn't arrived.

Then I called USCIS, and they told me I need to wait 90 days from the approval notice before I start bugging the NVC to go find it. There is such a large volume of petitions that I just have to wait my turn.

But this was confusing to me because the NVC told me: "Oh, well since it's been more than 21 days, we can start investigating it to go find it." Then USCIS turns around and says, "No, you have to wait 90 days."

Nobody talks to each other apparently. Oh and when I called up NVC and told them I was a little freaked out that I might have to wait a whole year for them to find this, she said, "yeah that does happen sometimes." WHAT?? Obviously happens often enough for her to know about it. Sounds like they need a better organizing system to get to the ones next in line. Maybe they can hire me, I'm good at organizing. Then I can put that job info on my affidavit, lol
