Hello,

I am new to all of this but here is a little bit of background info...

My boyfriend and I met online four years ago, two years ago i decided to go to Canada on a study permit, the two of us met up and hit it off! We have been together since September 5, 2009. We currently live together in Thuner Bay Ontario. If all goes as planned I will be done with school next May, and ideally the two of us would like to go back to Pennsylvania and get married. I have just a few basic questions/concerns that I have been searching for answers for, yet could not find...

- can i file the I129-F while studying in Canada or do I have wait, graduate, return to the US and then file?

- if i can file while in canada the one form where i have to show financial support, all my employment history along with money, resides in Canada with me, would this be a problem?

I'm sure I'll have many more questions throughout this crazy journey, thank you for your help :)

GO STEELERS! :)

No, you may file from Canada - you may send the I129F to the US address from Thunder Bay

No, however when it comes time to fill out the support papers showing your income and assests, you will likely have to have this converted into US currency

Good luck, welcome to VJ

If you two want to move to the US together, then marrying (in the US or Canada )sometime this year or the first part of 2012 and applying for a spouse visa prior to moving would be better. The process is called Direct Consular Filing. Look for it in the VJ Guides.

Think it through carefully!

My US citizenship interview is next month and we're in the middle of moving to Canada. After me being in the US for 6 years, we believe that overall our life will be better in Canada.

A lot of people think our countries are the same or very similar. We've found that that isn't the case. Although the people in both countries are great,

Consider:

- cost of living

- work/life balance

- cost of immigration

- health care

- social security/retirement

- politics

- civil liberties

etc.

Heading Home!

Naturalization

Feb 28/2011 - sent paperwork

Mar 3/11 - received text & email notification - they have it!

Mar 15/11 - text, email, and notice sent - biometrics booked

April 12/11 - biometrics done - I start studying

May - get the letter

June 27 - Interview and oath ceremony - same day

Lifting Conditions

Feb 5/08 - Sent paperwork by USPS - priority

Feb 14/08 - NOA issued

Feb 28/08 - Biometrics letter received for The Bronx Office - have to reschedule

Mar 22/08 - Biometrics rescheduled - LOVE the Saturday appointment!

Feb ?/09 - done!

I'M HIGHLY OPINIONATED WHEN I WANT TO BE, BUT I NEVER SAID I WAS RIGHT

Sure, you can file from Canada but unless your assets are substantial or your income will continue from the same source once you're in the USA, you'll probably need a cosponsor. If the order of business needs to be as you describe, that's a good plan. Otherwise, you may well be happier getting married first and going through a spouse visa process, preferably via direct consular filing.

Thank you all,

We were originally planning on living in Canada once we married, but after much consideration we decided that living in the states would be better.

I dont believe we can go the DCF route, as I am not a PR of Canada?

pushbrk: I do believe I will need a cosponsor, as I am a student and working ALMOST full time hours. I read in another forum that if you were listed as unemployed, you would need about 54,000 dollars? If I find a cosponsor, what requirements would they need to meet? My mother would prbly cosponsor, but she does not make 54,000 dollars a year.

GO STEELERS! :)

Google the difference between assets and income then Google and download the I-864p.
