On a plus note, if you like shreddies on the facebook page, they were giving away coupons for a free box, for those of us still in Canada and able to use them!!!

I have found crumpets in the freezer section in the Ingles Grocery Store in Locust Grove about 15 miles south of me - it is worth the drive :-). They don't taste as good as the ones back in Canada though - too much salt (and considering I put butter and peanut butter on them which are already salted), but hey, they're crumpets! I've introduced some of my friends here to them and they like them as well.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I want some frigging raisin tarts and some regular macaroons... why is this such a complicated thing to ask for?

At the grocery store, walmart, target, local market all the damn tarts are chocolate or some weird frigging flavor what the hell is wrong with raisin just plain regular old style ones. Then sure I can find macaroons on occasion but they are always covered with chocolate.... again why? where are the regular tasty ones.. what is wrong people lol

Starving a Canadian pregnant women of her cravings,,,,,they must all pay for there rudeness.

Oh cravings are terrible when you can find what you want, I was really lucky that my biggest craving was clementines, the rest of my cravings were all over the place. I make my own tarts but I miss the macaroons from home the ones here just suck they are just a big clump of coconut bleh. I need to get my parent to bring some down when they come back.

Went to the Bulk Barn while I was in Canada and brought back a bag of Smarties...... in part, so I could show my husband that they're not the same as American Smarties. :hehe: He says they are M&M's and not "real" Smarties. So we had a discussion on that last night. I declared myself the official winner. :P

When I was a kid I used to use the red ones to make lipstick. 2008-8-2_235612_smiley_kiss.gif

We seriously need a Bulk Barn in the US.

and a Timmies, and Rodolfs deli. bread..and cute thread..certainly lightens the load of this waiting....

Pastry:

  1. 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  3. 1 tablespoon granulated white sugar
  4. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled, and cut into 1 inch pieces
  5. 1/8 to 1/4 cup ice water

Mix flour, salt, and sugar until combined. Cut in butter until it forms a coarse texture. Add water slowly, about 1/8 cup until pastry is formed, you might need a little more.

Make a ball with the dough, flatten it and cover it with saran wrap. Refrigerate it for about one hour.

When ready, put the dough on a floured surface, roll it out into twelve 4 inch rounds. Put the rounds into the muffin tin and refrigerate for about another hour.

Butter Tart Filling:

  1. 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  2. 1 cup light brown sugar
  3. 2 large eggs
  4. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  5. 1/4 cup light cream (half-and-half)
  6. 1/2 cup raisins

Cream the butter and sugar.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, and then the vanilla extract.

Stir in the cream.

Place a spoonful of raisins in the bottom of each tart shell and then fill with filling.

Bake at 375 for 15 - 20 minutes or until the pastry has nicely browned and the filling is set.

Cool on a wire rack!
