Went to the Bulk Barn while I was in Canada and brought back a bag of Smarties...... in part, so I could show my husband that they're not the same as American Smarties. :hehe: He says they are M&M's and not "real" Smarties. So we had a discussion on that last night. I declared myself the official winner. :P

When I was a kid I used to use the red ones to make lipstick. 2008-8-2_235612_smiley_kiss.gif

We seriously need a Bulk Barn in the US.

Lol I did the same thing as a kid. Loved the red lips we could get. My kids keep asking if theirs a bulk barn here, they must of asked a million times by now. It's one of the first and last things they want to do when we went back. My parent's were down here in April for a week and brought us all kids of goodies, we still have plenty of smarties left too. I can't wait till this baby girl is born and old enough for smarties. I love em.

Many Indian stores carry "proper" Brit Smarties.

As for M&M's quite different:

  • the chocolate in Smarties is sweeter
  • candy-coating is thinner (and, unlike M&M's, no guarantee it'll melt only in your mouth)

Do you remember those red wax lips you used to get in candy stores? They were bizarre. And horrible-tasting too. lol

I remember them all too well, I would always get them but them complain how yukky they were.

Speaking of Indian grocers..... I used to be able to buy Ribena from them in Florida. When we moved to VA I went to all kinds of Indian grocers and none of them had even heard of it. They also don't stock fresh samosas. :o:crying: I finally found a place which makes them. They're pretty good but they're not the same as back home. Plus they're more than twice the price. I still like them, though.

I remember them all too well, I would always get them but them complain how yukky they were.

I know!!! Glad to hear I'm not the only one. lol

I might be in the minority here but I like M&M's better then Smarties  I always thought the coating on Smarties was too sweet... the dark chocolate M&M's are so good...

oh and the other day my SIL took me to this grocery store called Winco's and they have a huge bulk section.. I found my chocolate melting wafers there.. YAY!! now at Christmas I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for them at Micheal's :P

Last time I visited Canada I bought a bag of Smarties to show people here what they were & that they're not like M&Ms.

Also bought some ketchup chips to show them those too.

I know here you can find Aero chocolate in the British aisle, but its not the same as the Canadian Aero, I've tried!

Going back to Canada this weekend & I'll be stocking up on a bunch of stuff. I've been craving Jos.Louis lately!!
