So my husband and I just found out we are pregnant yesterday. surprise! ha ha. Ive already talked to the dr office for me immigration medical and figured out what I need to do for that. My question isnt actually immigration related... per se. My husband just got medical through work. We cant add me until I have my ssn.. and even then because I was pregnant before I was added, any birthing/pregnancy costs, to our knowledge, wont be covered by his medical. So here is my question...

if I were to have the baby in Canada, what steps would we need to take to bring our child into the US? I know there is something about birth abroad, but Im not really sure how that plays into things. We just dont really know what our options are right now and are overwhelmed. We can provide for a baby alright once we have it, but the medical expenses are astronomical here. I didnt realize exactly how different the medical system is here versus Canada.

Anyway.. other than worry about that, we are absolutely thrilled!

Your best approach may be what I'm inferring--you have the baby in Canada and register the birth at the US Consulate/Embassy so the child can be dual-citizen.

Have him look further into coverage for you on his plan. Other Canadians have reported that they have been covered because they can show proof of having previous medical coverage prior to immigration and pregnancy. Also, quite a number of us were added to our spouse's medical insurance without the SSN. We just had to send it in once we had it.

I second that, my wife is on mine , just had to show the wedding contract/license and it was done. Congrats on the pregnancy!
