well somehow I missed this thread in my biweekly reading of this forum, I guess I got sucked in to a couple of the train wrecks and got so disheartened I didnt feel like going on with it.

thanks for starting this thread, we needed it

as one of the oldest members in this forum (I think its just Jacque thats been around longer than me) I want to just add a little something, maybe its repetitive but I want to say it.

When I first found this site 2 and a half years ago I was the 2nd person here dealing with Morocco, and a handful of others from the ME/NA. To this day I still have trouble putting into words the immense relief and gratitude I felt at finding SOMEONE somewhere that could relate to what I was doing. I didn't plan to fall for a foreigner, I had never even the slightest interest or knowledge of anything regarding immigration. I was at a total loss trying to figure out all this #######, let alone handle the stresses of a long distance relationship. Visa Journey was like a Godsend. It helped me figure out the process and the papers, I was able to learn from the other(s) who went before me what to expect and help prepare my (now) husband for what he needed to do on his end and ease his fears of the unknown. I also made some great friends and had a lot of laughs and yes, I know its just the internet but you can learn a lot about people from their posts. I care about everyone whose story I read on here, thats why I stick around. I want to know what happens to and for everyone! (plus, I love the recipe threads, I've cooked quite a lot of things I found here :P ....)

So I try to imagine what it would be like if it was now when I was looking for information and this forum is what I found. For one thing I would never post. I certainly would be terrified to ask anyone anything. THATS what makes me sad and disappointed and hoping for a turnaround. Each one of us has knowledge and experiences to share that may help someone else down the road. Lets keep this as the valuable resource it is.

Mii eta'iwe Anishinaabe.

Unfortunately, I have never been to the Great Lakes area, but one of my best friends in my early 20s was Canadian Chippewa. Part of my family is Pamunkey, Chowtaw/Chickasaw. We were Indian rights activists in our teens and had good friends who were from Onandoga, St. Regis and Onieda whom we hung out with there for weeks at a time. Nice to meet you!

Miigwech.

You're welcome!

PS - I spoke a bit of an Algonquin dialect as a kid in Virginia.

I just wanted to post on this to bump it up and kind of remind everyone that life does not have to be so contentious.

It doesn't HAVE to be, but sometimes it is. My advice is to stay away from what you are unable to handle!

Oh...it is not about handling it...it is about actively going out and trying to stir up trouble. What is the point, honestly?

Hey, sometimes it just comes looking for you; the old trying to beat the round peg into the square hole. I'm admittedly out of sync with some of the folks here, and I'd have to leave to avoid stepping on their overly sensitive toes. I don't plan to leave, so I handle it. That's my point.
