My fiancee was four months pregnant when we filed for our K-1 petition. The baby arrived in April and two days later we got our notice that our petition was approved. I've read everything it takes to make the baby a American citizen. What I was wondering is, do we have to make the baby an American citizen now or can we just put the child on my fiancee passport and get a K-2 visa as part of her K-1?

Thank for everyones time,

Joseph

A child with a claim to US citizenship will not be issued a visa. File the CRBA and obtain a passport for the child.

Agree with Anh Map. The child is a USC. When you try and get a visa for the child USCIS will deny it because the child is a USC and can only enter the US on a US passport. They'll tell you to file CRBA. You will lose time waiting for this if you wait till you're told this at the interview.

CRBA is "Consular Report of Birth Abroad". It will register the child as a USC and s/he will get his/her passport.
