Dominican Packet 3 Confusion

So my petition was received by the embassy last week and I was told by the visa specialist today that packet 3 was sent out on May 12th and that my fiance is eligible for an interview. But as of today there is still no appointment. I have read mixed things about whether there is a separate packet 3 in the DR. I've read that everything comes in packet 4 and you're supposed to bring the forms to the embassy (due to the unreliable mail system). If that's the case, I'm confused as to what was sent out last week and why there is no appointment yet. I tried calling (and paying for) the number listed on the embassy website. That person told me that something was sent out on the 12th, but it wasn't packet 4, no appointment has been scheduled yet and everything is fine. Can anyone who recently had an interview scheduled share their experience? Thanks!

That sounds a little weird. Try calling NVC instead of the Embassy, it is kind of useless. If your packet is already in SDO, it means you have a case number assigned already. The visa specialist at NVC will tell you your case number and maybe the interview date if you have one. If you don't, you can check the list of scheduled appointments when they post a new one.

There's no packet 3 in DR, they send packet 4 with all instructions and forms. But some people never get it (we didnt). So call NVC and find out what your case number is and start preparing!

Thanks. I did talk to a visa specialist at NVC. They said "Packet 3" and no interview date so then I tried the embassy # ($7.00 per call). I couldn't understand if she said "Packet 3" but she did say it was "not Packet 4" and gave me the same date that it was sent (May 12th). She also said there was no interview date yet. So, I don't know if it was "Packet 4" and the interview date just wasn't put into the computer yet or if something else was sent out.

Nothing was sent out, for DR its all under packet 4, when they say packet 3 that just means they entered your info into the system

Oh. Ok. That makes sense, sort of. I wished they trained people better so that they could explain things. It seems like they should know that not all of the embassies work the same.

Yea Visa Specialist are in the limbo or they dont know how to word it better. But Packet 3 really doesnt exist for K1 petitions like Jaz00mine said it means all your case info is in their system and that now you are just waiting for interview date. Packet 4 is what they really send out to your fiance. In a few days they will probably say Packet 3 was sent and received and you are going to be clueless as to what the heck they are talking about but that info is useless. Some Visa Specialist don't mention the packet 3 some do it depends who you talk to.

Its a CRAZY   thing out there lol

Santo Domingo does not have a packet 3 AND 4. It is only one packet. The visa specialists also told me the wrong information you received, OP. Just keep calling the visa specialist until they give you an interview date. Once you have the date, stay on top of ACTUALLY getting the packet. If the beneficiary has not received the packet within two weeks of the interview you should call the Embassy and request a "duplicate" packet for pick-up directly at the Embassy in Santo Domingo. My fiance had to do this since he never received the packet and we actually never received news of the interview! If it had not been for the fact that I stayed on top of the situation calling the visa specialist the interview would have come and gone without us being aware of it...

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.
