Unfortunately there are no "maximums" in the world of immigration. Every case is different, and some take only a few weeks while others are stuck there for months.

what' is the muximum of time a file can take in the NVC?

If everything is done correctly and you don't receive any RFEs then you can be out of NVC in 4 - 6 weeks. They process forms quickly if it's done right the first time.

If you do it correctly , after you have paid your IV and AOS bills on line and sent your DS232 and I 864, then , allow up to 20 BUSINESS days ( about 1 month ) to hear a response. If everything is good , they will forward your paper work to the Consulate for scheduling an interview. If there 's something missing or no good, then , they 'll send a check list request ( RFE ) . Once you have responded to this , it may take again up to 20 business days ( 1month ) for the case to complete and send to the consulate . So, it may take months if you keep screwing up . Each time you send them a response , please include the BAR code along , otherwise , they may get lost .They have thousand of applications every day.

There is a maximum of sorts, though - if you don't send anything in (payments, forms, supporting evidence), then after a year the NVC will close your case and you'll have to start over from scratch.
