Name Change on Applications?

Hi there!

My American wife and I (I'm from Canada) are going to be filing our I-130/G-325a right after we receive our marriage certificate in the mail.

The marriage certificate (from Los Angeles Country) will have her new last name on it but I'm pretty sure this does not constitute the name change process?

How should she fill out her name on the applications (I-130/G-325a)? Should it be her old last name, or her new one?

I had the same situation. Since I was going to change my name anyways, I just applied in my new married name, but when asked what my "previous names" were I listed my maiden name. During the process I slowly began changing all of my ID. They didn't even bat an eye at the name change, all we had was our marriage certificate as well.

I had the same situation. Since I was going to change my name anyways, I just applied in my new married name, but when asked what my "previous names" were I listed my maiden name. During the process I slowly began changing all of my ID. They didn't even bat an eye at the name change, all we had was our marriage certificate as well.

I'm Canadian with an American husband/petitioner.

We got our marriage certificate in FL, and I came back to Canada once my vacation was up. I wanted ALL my documents to be in my married name before we started applying. I changed over my passport and driver's license first then other smaller IDs after.

This just makes more sense to me, and it doesn't take long.

I guess it doesn't really matter, but I'm super ####### and like to take my time lol.
