I'm debating. One-way ticket or round trip?

Hello everyone,

I'm debating whether my husband should buy a one way ticket or roundtrip. Does anyone have a suggestion either way? The price is about the same so that's not the issue. We're considering a round trip because we want to do the CR1 route and have him go back to do his interview in his country. We're estimating the time so hopefully we can pick a return date that's close to his interview. If not, then he can always use the ticket to go back and visit family. I just don't want to waste money on a one way ticket when we know that he's going to be traveling back and forth.

Also, will a one way ticket or round trip affect him at the port of entry? Let's say he gets a round trip ticket but when he arrives he tells them that he's moving here permenantly to be with his wife. Would that raise a red flag? Would they question why he has a return flight? I'm just so nervous about this whole move. I would really like to hear what you think because we want to purchase a ticket soon. Please help. Thank you.

Elena

Whether you buy a one way ticket or a roundtrip doesn't make a difference at the POE. The customs agents do realize that sometimes roundtrip tickets are less expensive. Hope you can find a ticket that is priced well and fits your needs :)

From personal experience, I have numerous unused return tickets. They make nice wall paper!

When you buy a return ticket, you must have confidence that the return will be used within, 6 months or 1 year, depending on the price.

In my case, I cannot use the return before expiration, thus a one way often makes sense.

You should gauge the purchase of a return ticket, on a reasonable expectation that you can use both segments; and not need to buy yet another return, with a hanging return leg that may expire.

Hi Jamie, how are you holding up? I guess ok, you are your usual cheerful self. I am confident that the action has been rolled back to the early filers, like you guys!!! Here is to you!!

i'd go one way, since should be cheaper. a k-3 does have multiple entry, but if you should need to go back to Philippine you'd need a round trip to return here. if you were using the return leg of a round trip to go back to the Philippines, you'd then have to purchase a one way to return here.

IMHO, one way is the way to go.

I would recommend one way. Estimating when you will return is always tricky when it comes to immigration stuff so you might lose the return flight or have to pay extra to change it. Buy the roundtrip when he goes back for the interview. That's just my suggestion. B)
