Speaking to live person at USCIS?

Hi folks. I'd sure like to speak to a real person at USCIS. I know some of you have pulled this off. Is this just a matter of all the stars lining up at the time I dial, or is there a trick to making this happen? I'v called the 800.375.5283 enough times to know that this number exists mostly to distract, detour and annoy. Is there a different number? Would I stand a better chance of getting through to someone if I dialed it from Vermont?

Not sure it'll help you, though, since the options to talk to a live operator don't seem to fit your situation. I spoke with a customer representive they only tell u whats on your

last message from USCIS some 1 wrote here u should ask for

immigration officer an I tried that an held phone for 1 hr an by

then it was closing time there an no 1 ever answered my call

but to get a person after animated oper thru press 1 for english

then press 3 an next press 6 the questions do not pertain to K1

visa but u can at least talk to a person

There is no different number. Calling from Vermont will not help.

If you choose the proper selections, this number will allow you to get to a live person. Calling mid-week will make your hold time a little less. Do not expect them to answer any questions on your case other than what you can see on the USCIS web site. Do not expect them to know any more answers than what you can find here at VJ.

But don't waste your time. The only "benefit" I saw in calling was that if your case is overdue, they will add some kind of special follow-up message. (By overdue, I mean older than the date posted at the USCIS website for your service center. CSC right now is March 8, 2006.) And even then, I don't think this "follow-up message" will do much.

I spoke to a real person after sending my change of address to USCIS 3 times and still finding mail getting sent to my old address. The person did NOT want to take my new address, until I practically begged and explained that mailing it in had done no good. So she reluctantly took the new addy and I got a letter acknowledging it after 1 week.

I have talked to an immigration officer on that line, and they couldn't tell me squiddly diddly.
