Where are K1 interviews held?

Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen residing in the Greater Toronto Area. I have an american fiance who has petitioned for me under the I-129F (fiancee visa). My petition was sent out in late November, then sent to the NVC this month. NVC processed it quickly and sent my fiance a letter saying that my petition will soon be forwarded to the nearest consulate post, which was indicated as Montreal.

I thought it would've gone to Toronto? :( Are Montreal and Vancouver the only places that do K1 visas even though they're technically non-immigrant visas? Did they send it to the wrong city? Is that where my interview will be? I was so excited that things were going quickly and now I'm worried as I've read all these stories about people waiting forever when their case is assigned to Montreal. Ugh. I wasn't expecting it to be fast, though, so I guess I shouldn't be disappointed.

Sorry for such an obvious question, but I can't find any clear answers from the consulate websites alone.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Wil be in Montreal!!

Only Vancouver and Montreal do k1 visas! Yes their are other consulates in canada, BUT only Mtl and Van do them! Since your in Toronto, you goto Montreal!

Manitoba(k1) and west got VAN. East of that goto Mtl

And --does NOT pertain to you--but ALL CR-1 (already married) goto Mtl!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

You will also need to have a medical done before the interview. That can be done in Toronto or Montreal. There is a list of physicians that can do the medical.

Welcome to the wait for Montreal! I just had my interview on Wednesday.

Thanks for answering my question guys :D Jeannie: Ugh... You sent the petition July last year and only had your interview this week? :\ Well, if mine goes at the same rate as yours then I have about 5 months to go. That's not too bad, I just hope it goes smoothly.

If you don't mind answering another question... I know that, among other things, you're supposed to bring your "medical history" to the examination. I have not yet received any further instructions as my case only just left the NVC last week, but I thought I'd call my physician and ask about the process and associated fees for obtaining my medical history just to be prepared. She said that she needs more detail regarding what I specifically need before she can help me. I already have my vaccination record, but I was wondering if you know what other "specific" documents one generally needs to bring to the medical examination? (I'm guessing this may vary depending on which panel physician does it). Or, is it at least explained in detail in the instructions I will be receiving in the future, or is a pdf available online?

Sorry for asking so many question!

Thanks again!

This is the place to ask questions, so no worries! Yes, the medical process is explained a bit in Packet 4. I'll provide you with two links here.

This first one is a link to the consulate's website which details what to expect in Packet 3 and 4. It is good to go over these things and start to prepare to get your documents together.

Montreal Consulate's Website.

This second link is to the panel physicians that perform the medical exam in Toronto or Montreal. It gives you a detailed list of everything you require. Read through it and see what applies to you so that you can be sure to have everything in order.

Panel Physicians.

Medisys in Montreal also performs medical exams. I believe their requirements are the same. I had a lot of trouble scheduling a medical with Dr Seiden's listed above, so I went to Medisys. It was very professional and easy. :)

You will be required to have the TDaP immunization....I had blood tests to check for immunity to Mumps Measles and Rubella. I was not immune to the Mumps so I had the MMR immunization. There is a list of immunizations that are required, depending on age. If no one posts it here in the next few minutes I will go have a look for it and post it.

I have yet another silly question. My birth certificate is in French (I was born in Montreal) but I don't need to get it translated right? I *believe* I read somewhere that documents only need to be in the official languages of the country the interview it takes place in, but I can't remember exactly, and since I'm applying for an American visa I thought they might require an English translation. Does anyone know about this?

I believe you'll need a certified translation. There are a couple French Cdn VJ'ers so hopefully they chime in with their recent experince.

Don't forget about the SEARCH feature on VJ, its not the greatest, may require some tinkering on how you phrase your question, but can usually find what ur looking for. Yes--it will have to be translated by a certified translator and notarized I believe!

If you are interviewing in Montreal you DO NOT need to get your birth certificate translated. My husband's birth certificate was in French and we did our CR-1 interview in Montreal. I called NVC and they told me as long as the certificate is in English or in the language of the country the interview is being held, it WILL NOT need a translation.

We did not translate his birth certificate and there was no problem.

I think so people get it translated for good measure. But I say save the $50. The one place that we did need a translation was when I was getting a US tax ID number for him to file our US taxes. He didn't have a passport at the time so instead we used a birth certificate and driver's license. That's the only time I needed a translation.
