Apostille of Passport copy for ITIN application (spouse in India)

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone done an apostille for a passport copy in India?

I found the following online: Excellent Apostille Services Pvt Ltd.

I need this, as I had filed for a joint return, but IRS asked for a apostille of passport copy for my wife (in India).

The above company has various branches across India and they charge Rs. 5000 at least per page.

Not sure, if I can trust and send passport copy for Apostille?

Any inputs please (any other alternatives as well)?

I just got mine returned from IRS. When I called they said the needed Notarized copy of passport that was Apostilled. I just send a notarized copy.

I think your country is part of the Hague Convention. If this is the case then a copy of the passport that is notarized and apostilled is good..

Do we need just the front page?

I tried it when going through the immigration process.

To get the Apostille in India is long process, first local stuff, then stamp from Delhi Ministry.

You can do this, file now as single, when she comes here, file a amended return (married filling jointly).

I think (check with accountant), you can go back 3 years to file amended return.

when I sent an apositlled copy of a passport to the IRS asking for ITIN, I got back a letter... requesting an apostilled copy of the passport. I then sent them a notarized copy of the apostilled copy, with explanation that I already sent them the original and they should have it... I got back a letter saying ITIN denied due to lack of passport

I gave up. All that to say, get TWO apostilles if you are going to go through the expense!
