Applying for Social Security Number

Hello everyone! I have two questions about applying for a social security number:

1) The SSN instructions ask for two forms of identification. Will my fiance's passport and the k1 visa inside the passport meet those requirements? Is there any other type of identification that would also be valid? Birth certificate?

2) I just want to confirm that k1 visa holder CAN apply for a social security number WITHOUT a EAD? Someone was telling me that my fiance would have to wait until his EAD came before applying for the SSN but from what I have been reading that doesn't true seem. Just wanted to double check on that.

Thanks for the help :star:

Yes, A K-1 holder can apply for a SSN based on the K-1. There needs to be some time left on the I-94 however.

I am not sure what they will accept for ID. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Those guidelines say to bring another form of ID. But then in the SSN instructions, it says that valid forms of identification are things like U.S. driver license or U.S. ID cards which my fiance will not have. I'm not sure if I'm reading the instructions carefully enough but it seems to suggest that identification from foreign countries may not be valid. What other forms of identification, besides the passport with the visa, would be acceptable?
