Can I transfer to Vancouver?

Hi everyone,

I sent package 3 to Montreal. Some of you may have noticed that there are no interview appointments available in Montreal at this time (it's been like this for 2 weeks). Last I saw they were scheduling appointments to the end of July. I have been planning my wedding for October 9th but now I'm worried that I might not get my visa in time. Vancouver is scheduling interviews in as little as 16 days. Does anyone know if you can get your case forwarded from Montreal to Vancouver? I would be willing to make the trip if it meant I could get my visa sooner!

Think i can just stay and a friends place in Vancouver ? and do I need to resend everything if I do ?

No. As others have said, the beneficiary has to have THEIR physical address in an area that the Vancouver consulate serves. It is not as simple as giving them someone else's address. There is no switching consulates unless the beneficiary physically moves to the area.

I don't want to come off as abrupt - but everyone just has to go through the process and abide by their rules. May as well learn that now since you're going to be running by USCIS rules for the next 3-5 yrs or so.

We all would have loved to go through Vancouver, but trying to circumvent the existing rules isn't going to help.

To the original OP - giving yourself a hard wedding date may just cause you some disappointment. I didn't read your timeline before posting so I'm not sure how close you are or whether you're close to getting paperwork from Montreal or not. Wedding dates for K1's are moving targets, you never know what could hold you up. I was all set to have an August wedding and mine ended up being in Nov by the time my K1 interview was done and I moved :(

I agree. Trying to bend the existing rules can lead to nothing but trouble. To be honest, you have to be realistic and extremely patient to get through this process. Otherwise you'll be disappointed as stated by Udella&Wiz.

Wishing you the best of luck with your visa process,

I wasn't going to give them just an address i was going to physically move to that place.

If you physically move to within the Vancouver Consulate jurisdiction you can request a transfer of your file to the Vancouver Consulate.

Kathryn's absolutely right of course. If there was someone here who has any experience moving from Montreal to Vancouver perhaps they can chime in. At some point, someone must have.

My comment still stands - although I wasn't trying to be mean. You do mention you're already at package 3....even if your appt is in late August or Sept perhaps your wedding date isn't unreasonable....it's just helpful to understand that immigration is a pain in the a$$. Many of us have been left disappointed that our weddings have been basically shifted by what USCIS does and not by what we wanted, but it all works out.

Be prepared to be flexible...yes it's hard to plan and it's hard for guests.

A few in the past have given them a Western province addy and had their case moved from Mtl to Van. Did they truly move?? Who knows, but they did get their case transferred.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
