My co-sponsor filed e-taxes, we printed off the copies, but as e-filed, they are not signed. He did sign the back of the tax returns and had them notarized. Will this be ok? We have got transcripts for 2007, 2008, 2009, but will w2s be needed? As for 2010, finished that, got w2s, but again not signed, but notarized on the back.

Also, as for birth certificate and passport evidence for sponsor and co-sponsor, is a copy ok, or will this need to be certified. I have copies in hand.

Tax returns do not need to be notarized...

Can always order IRS transcripts for FREE..

Moving to Embassy/consulate forum, this comes up at the time of visa interview, not when filing the petition...

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

I am aware they do not need to be notazrized, although, london embassy says notarized copy. My question was more about whether an e-filed tax return needs signing. None were signed, but we have transcripts up to 2009, but not 2010. The 2010 has a w2 but not signed. The 2007-2009 do not have w2s

No, you don't need a notarized copy.

If you are providing transcripts, you do not need the W2s and 1040s - so for 2009, just the transcript is fine.

For 2010, I filed online, too, and signed the printed forms. Wasn't sure and wanted to be safe. You could also just submit 1040s and W2 copies.

London will approve you without even showing a tax return if you have other proofs like paystubs and employment letter. Point is, they aren't super particular if you can show them the money. 2010 tax return + W2 OR transcript is all you will need, not other years. (But to answer your question, a transcript by itself fits the criteria to prove income income.)If you printed out a copy of the return as it would be for mailing in, then just sign and date it. That's what I did. It must be the IRS form 1040 plus any attached schedules, and not some summary sheet cranked out by H&R Block or TurboTax. Official IRS forms.

Photocopies of co-sponsor birth certificate or passport are fine.

Thanks, I have the 2010 copy already in hand but unsigned, guess I could ask the person to mail me or scan for me a signed copy.

As for photocopy, just a plain photocopy or a certified copy?

The reason for signing the tax return is because the statement before the signature ("Under penalty of perjury, I declare....") is a promise by the filer that it is true and correct. Makes it like a sworn statement and official.

Any birth certificate should be "certified" by the county saying they certify it is a true copy of the county birth records and have a stamp, seal, embossment, etc and probably county clerk's signature on it. You lay that on a Xerox machine and copy it. Send only the Xerox copy of the certified copy.

How about a passport photocopy. Just a simple xerox scan, so we dont have to go to local lawyer and get it certified as a true copy?

Let me make this simple. We're through applications for fiance petition, K1 visa (London), AOS/EAD/AP, and removing conditions. We have never been to a lawyer's office to have any document certified or any other reason. Nothing has been notarized. We have never had an RFE.
