Does the Embassy contact you by phone or mail?

I am a November filer for the K1 and I am (hopefully) expecting to receive an NOA2 (or an RFE) at some point soon. My fiance's phone number in Kyrgyzstan just changed and I was wondering if it is necessary for me to call USCIS and have them update it. Also, will the embassy contact her by phone or by postal service?

Thank you!

Since nobody has answered you yet. Generally speaking the embassy usually first only contacts and sends you the forms by mail. I believe USCIS only cares about addresses of people in the US, but don't hold me to that.

You can also obtain the forms online here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html

Your embassy website probably lists the forms you will have to fill out.

In one of those forms there is probably an area for your fiances current number and address.

There they also ask where she will be living in the US and that one you will have to keep updated, when that time comes.

NOA1 - 12/21/15

NOA2 - 04/18/16

NVC Receive - 04/29/16

NVC Welcome - 05/13/16

DS-261 - 05/14/16

AOS, IV PAID - 05/27/16

DS260 done - 06/10/16

Case Transferred to US Embassy in Riga Latvia at the end of October.

If you really want it, you'll find a way!

So it seems most likely that the U.S. embassy abroad will contact my fiance via mail and not by a phone call? Once the case goes through the National Visa Center to the embassy abroad I assume they contact the beneficiary and send them a package through the mail, but I am not sure.

I have never heard of an embassy calling the beneficiary initially. All Embassies don't have the same policies. I'd suggest checking your embassy website for their contact information and what they require for the K-1. Depending on how busy they are they might respond to emails or you might be able to call them and ask.

I have never heard of an embassy calling the beneficiary initially.
Horrifyingly, the beneficiary of a VJ Ecuador couple was called at 9:30 a.m., on the morning of their scheduled 2:30 p.m. interview, and was told "Get down here by 10:30 or we're cancelling your appointment." Fortunately, the couple was already in town, and they just made it as they were ordered. Granted, this wasn't an "initial" call, and it's an example of the incredible and perhaps unique duplicity of the ####### Guayaquil consulate, but it shows that the beneficiary can be called. Therefore, updating the phone number is probably prudent.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
