Visa for USC to live in PI

Two scenarios:

1) What if I want to go to PI for longer than 21 days (no visa required for < 21 days)? Let's say my asawa and I wanted to visit her family, and wanted to live there for 3 months or something?

2) What if I want to retire and move to the PI for good? What are the requirements for that?

TIA!

Because you're married to a citizen of the Philippines, I believe you can visit the Philippines for up to a year by simply getting your passport stamped when you arrive at NAIA.

I'm not familiar with the requirements for permanent residence because Chinook and I plan on retiring here in the U.S. However, I read something about a 13a visa here on VJ. Maybe someone who knows about it will chime in.

WHen you arrive you get a 21 day tourist visa stamp, If you travel to intramarous to the bearu of immigration you pay about 60 dollars and get a visa extension for 1 month. You can do this up to 6 months.

If you plan to retire here, you can file for a 13a visa, go to the same place get your extension and tell them you want to apply, they will help you , it takes about 30 days to find out if approved or not. Bring all the proof you can, , especially something showing income (not just your current funds)

If you and your wife enter the philippines together, or leave together to another country and return a day or so later, you can request a balikbayan stamp upon entry, show your marriage papers and request it. Its a 1 year stamp. After the 1 year its treated like a normal tourist visa unless you do it over again

Thanks Tahoma, that will put me on the right track. Nice knowing about the balikbayan stamp, too, good for a year. Appreciate the point in the right direction!!

Yep with the balikbayan stamp you just have to arrive with your wife, but that would be your plan anyway. I think eventually we will be retiring back to the PI too. I have been to the PI a couple of times and had to go to the bureau of immigration to extend my visa. The $60 or so gets you out to 60 days instead of the normal 21 days. Now my wife and I will be travelling together so I will get the balikbayan stamp so I dont have to pay the extra fee and spend a couple of hours waiting for the visa.

really? is balikbayan stamp applicable if his wife is a filipino citizen? hmmm.. nice one! my hubby USC and i(filipina) usually leave the country during his vacation here.. and if ever my interview date is already set he will go with me but we're worried about the waiting time of visa arrival at home that it would take more than 21days in total.. that's very helpful.. THANKS adam&thet

As long as you are married to a philippines citizen and you return to the philippines together you can request the balikbayan stamp which makes you good for 1 year. Some people do this yearly instead of all the paper work and fees involved in the 13a visa

Does the immigration officer automatically stamp your passport for balikbayan visa or do you have to mention it?

I would imagine you have to tell the IO. If you didn't, how would s/he know you are married to a Filipina/o? Probably need a marriage cert, too.

They would usually stamp it automatically if travelling with the Filipino spouse but if they mistakenly stamped "EO 21" (which means 21 days), you can request for correction and ask for the "Balikbayan" stamp.
