Beneficiary (not in the U.S.) Change of Address - Help!

Hello :)

I am very confused! Here is a brief overview of my story:

I am Australian. I live in Australia. My husband is American. He lives in America. He has filed an I 130 so that I can join him. He received I 797 - notice of approval for our I 130 in his mail - sent 14 March, 2011 (Yay).

Problem is - I have moved house - to another location in my same city in Australia. On the original I 130 application my address is my old address. The I 797 states: The NVC will contact the person for whom you are petitioning(beneficiary) concerning further immigrant visa processing

. So - I need to change my address with USCIS. Information online seems to be a bit contradictory. When I go to change my address online, it seems to assume I am already in the United States - the form asks the question "I am in the U.S. as a" and gives the options - other, permanent resident, student, or visitor. It also asks when my stay expires. It also asks which state I am in and gives no overseas options. So, is there a way to change my address as a beneficiary who is outside the U.S.?

I am so worried that they will send me paperwork and I will not receive it. I have a mail redirection in place but I have seen no sign of any paperwork at my new address. And regardless of that, I know they must need my new address somehow.

I did call the USCIS this morning and the man on the other end did not seem to understand what I was telling him - he told me to simply fill in the AR 11 online (though he had to put me on hold to find this out) and did not seem to realise that is only for people within the U.S. I did not want to push the issue with him - I am scared of getting anyone in that office offside as this is so important to me! I have searched the forums and cannot seem to find an answer specific to my enquiry.

I would be so grateful for the assistance of the members here.

Thank you in anticipation.

P.S. It occurs to me, upon further investigation, that the AR 11 applies to aliens in the U.S.

AR-11, Change of Address

* Download Form AR-11 (370KB PDF)

Purpose of Form :

To report the change of address of an alien in the United States. If you are subject to Special Registration, see Form AR-11 Special Registration.

You may also change your address online.

I am even more confused now as to how a beneficiary, not in the states, changes their address! I should not have moved!

Oh wow - such an old thread -

but

here's one answer, however malformed -

Address on the beneficiary doesn't matter, as The Address can be 'fixed' during NVC document intake.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT ADDRESS TO THEM at NVC, during the 2 month process for document intake.

Then - pay attention to interview scheduling - USUALLY you will get an email containing the interview letter (not need postal address for this) and sometimes there is a postal letter containing the interview letter as well (this varies by Country)

FWIW, NVC will NOT contact the beneficiary for a long time - usually 6 months, in the vein of 'postal processing'.

There's 3 things to do at NVC, DS-3032, I-864 and DS-230 document intake. If you stay in 'postal processing path', NVC Will send something out, every three months - is 3 months per thing, so 9 months total.

Most people here at VJ opt for SPEED, instead, and form a WonderTwin Team between the USCitizen Petitioner and the Foreign Spouse - they STUDY all over at the Ling Che shortcut here in the WIKI, and 'do something else' instead of waiting on the post.

Find Ling Che, study Ling Che, make yer WonderTwin Team, and GO FORTH!

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

So, let me see if I get this straight...

Since they are going to send every single notification to the US citizen, the change of adress of the NON US Citizen is not important because they are never going to contact me?

I thought that since we had to fill a biografic, it was the right thing to do to inform a change of adress

is the Foreign Beneficiary wanting to go through 'postal processing' at NVC, or no?

If no, please train up yer USCitizen Spouse to handle all at NVC via the contents posted on the Wiki in the Ling Che Shortcut page.

Please?

However, if YES - then having the right address is important. Suggest you SEND OFF a POSTAL LETTER to NVC, updating your address with THEM via postal mail.

Good luck, whatever path you choose (there are at least two, aye?)

WOW, old thread but I am going through this now. When I called USCIS, the agent informed me that since USCIS only deals with customers in the US, that I can fax the appropriate case information and the new address of the beneficiary outside the US to the NVC..and she gave me the fax number. She informed me they will pass this information to the USCIS application. Only problem is the fax number was invalid..headbonk.gif.

I then looked online more at the DOS site and found a process to send an email to the DOS/NVC via the address "nvcinquiry at state.gov"...which I did and received an auto-reply confirming it was received. Here is the URL for this process is http://www.dhs.gov/federal-change-address-procedures . I hope it helps someone.

Yes I did the same...emailed NVC at NVCInquiry@state.gov with the new address and received an auto reply. Our preferred method of communication was email so the next email sent to my husband had the updated mailing address.
