Let my wife and daughter go their own way at the Mall of America looking and buying clothes, couldn't find any thing of interest for myself, but found an adorable Dora the Explorer doll for my granddaughter for 14 bucks, so I got her that. Oh, the oath ceremony? Wisconsin Road Conditions stated most of the interstate was snow covered, so left three hours earlier, they weren't that bad, very little traffic and we got there three hours early.

Apparently St. Paul has a special oath ceremony for Wisconsinites, was held in the basement with comfortable chairs, just a single line for applicants and guests, but not very many guests. Counted 38 applicants, and about ten guests. Had my stepdaughter fill out the back of her oath letter, brought a pen, that and her green card was collected at the door. Had a new office manager from the last time, much older woman, she was nice, but in a hurry to get this thing over with. She had all the people stand up that had their interview that morning and apologized for the long day. About 15 stood up, we weren't in that elite lucky group making yet another long boring trip.

She didn't want any photos of her passing out the certificates, had my camera, but stayed in my pocket, she went on to explain to carefully check over your certificate for errors, said they would correct any for free, but if you walk out with errors on your certificate would cost you around $380.00 and take four months to have them corrected. I insisted on looking over my Stepdaughters certificate, we sat behind her, was error free. Her photo wasn't that great, blurred and embedded, but on the same type of paper as my wife's.

She talked about post citizenship, said takes them about ten days to get them into a database that the SS uses. Not sure about that, took my wife's certificate to the SS office with her signed application before and took about two minutes to get that done for her new card and identified in their records as a US citizen. Of course, your new card does not reflect that fact.

She said if any of you had kids under 18 they automatically become US citizens, but won't have any proof of that, so apply for an N-600.

She said you can't leave the country without a US passport, should make copies of your certificate and get on the Department of State website for the many agents. Is the DOS taking copies now? New to me. Said don't lose your certificate, tuck it away in a safe place, will cost you $380.00 for a replacement. And said to register to vote, your vote can make a difference. She also said while taking a stiff oath, still may need your foreign passport to enter your home country, the USA is very understanding about this. My though, promised my wife and daughter to keep my big mouth shut, was quiet and good, the USA forces you to do this with that stupid place of birth on your US passport. I already have a bad reputation for speaking out on stuff like this. Wife and daughter thanked me for being good for a change.

She had all the applicants stand and remain standing when called by countries, vast majority were from China and Laos, stepdaughter was the only one from Venezuela. Then they recited the oath while we sat. We all stood up to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Watched quick video, will call him President Obama, not nearly as long winded as Bush was. Then some music video about Its great to be an American. She grabbed the certificates, stepdaughter was third in line, and said when you received your was free to leave, we left.

When we got back in the car, wife and daughter wanted to go back to the mall, we got home late last night, was to tired to party, so just hit the sack. Really don't care for this new DS-11, already typed it out, but found one small error in the form. No way to correct it on the saved form even using Adobe Acrobat Pro, so have to redo the entire form at their site. But more carefully time. Pro version has a spell checker on it, web site does not, but you can't download just the form and fill it in anymore. Its just me, can spot an error a mile away from the printed form, but just don't see it on the screen, should see a therapist on this issue. When they try to make things easier, for me, its more difficult.

I did bring along my folder with all the proof traffic tickets were paid, drivers' license was never suspended, carefully composed letters, but didn't need it. Nothing was mentioned about that hassle we were put through, just got her certificate and left. And everything was correct on her certificate, even her Alien Number, had sheet with that printed on it.

Now after so many years. dealing with USCIS. i think u got used to them . maybe u need to find u someone else to file for, lol unless you not done with them yet.

Plan on keeping the wife I got, nobody else like her, not that I am looking, but having to deal with the USCIS is sure a big deterrent, LOL.

I should be the one celebrating, completely free of that I-864 now!
