Interview attendance by fiance

Hi Everyone,

My fiance is a pilot in the US Air Force and will more than likely be deployed while I go for my interview in Montreal. It is my understanding that your fiance does not need to be present at the interview but I was reading on the Embassy reviews page that most people bring their fiance with them to the interview. Will it hurt me if I have to go to the interview alone? Can anyone share their experience of going without your US fiance? Thank you!

If he is deployed all you need is letter of his deployment and that should be it.

There are few things like this that they consider give you credit for it when you spouse is serving in armed forces or is working for the United States Govt.

No it will not hurt you, when we were there a lot of people went solo without their spouse/fiance

Generally its fine for the fiance not to attend. In fact, there are a lot of embassys that dont allow the fiance in!

Just curiously, have you expedited your case due to the deployment?

I wouldn't worry about it - it will not hurt your chances at your interview in Montreal.

Is it possible to expedite the case due to deployment? It would be nice if he could attend the interview with me. I know he really wanted to go to Montreal!

Yes my interview was expedited due to my husbands deployment. No he did not attend the interview with me because he could not get leave on short notice to go with me. Interview was fine, they know about military people not being able to travel much for leave etc.

Nope will not hurt anything, many do not attend. Mine did not--they did ask why--and I said she was at work, simple as that.

I also had my interview expedited due to my husband's upcoming deployment, so yes, it is absolutely possible!

My husband called his senator's immigration liaison, she put in the request on our behalf, all we really had to do was to send a copy of his deployment papers to Montreal.

I think that within a weeks' time Montreal emailed me with a date, and just to warn you, I didn't have any choice in the matter (with regards to the date) - it was pretty much "Your interview is on this date - take it or leave it", I wasn't allowed to reschedule anything. Mine was like 10 days AFTER they emailed me, lol not much time to arrange hotel and my medical but I got it done.

If your fiance can go with you due to being expedited, great, he is there for moral support. If not, no big deal at all. I had my interview a couple weeks ago, and the Officer asked, "where is your sweetheart today?", and I told him he was still in bed, since it was 6 am in California, but that he would be on his way to work shortly. He chuckled at that, and moved on. No big deal at all!

And although moral support would have been welcome, it just wasn't worth the trip from LA for a 5 minute interview. I laughed in the elevator on the way down about how much I had built it up.

Bottom line - no big deal if he can't attend. Safe travels to him

It's a good truth to share - I was thinking about just saying "he couldn't come because he has to work" but I feel like being more specific seems like ... a warmer response, you know
