Attending interview with fiancé?

Greetings all -

I'm wondering if others are going to attend the interview with their fiancé. Since my fiance's interview is in Juarez (not the safest place) and we have a little baby, I'm not sure if I should go with him. It seems that going is good for proving a relationship. But, he could take photos of our family, a copy of our daughter's birth certificate with both of our names and my passport. That would prove a relationship with out a doubt. Wouldn't it?

I'm interested in hearing what others have decided to do.

Thanks!

Kelly

Well unfortunately you won't be able to go into the interview or any of the appointments with your fiance, you won't even be allowed in the building. Because of this you must prepare to prove your relationship on paper.

As far as going for moral support a lot of people do and lots don't. I wanted to go but I didn't think it would be a good idea to travel so far with our 5 week old. :( So I'm up here in CA while he's there in Juarez as we speak. He's lonely and bored but he'll survive!

You don't need to go, but he does need to show proof or the relationship. Phone calls records, money orders, boarding passes, lots of pictures, your daughter birth certificate, your birth certificate (and a copy they can keep), anything you have that can convince the C.O. that your relationship is real. However, if you decide to go, I can tell you (for experience because I went for my interview all by myself) that the surrounding areas of the consulate are pretty safe, there's always police surveillance and people are actually really nice, just remember to use common sense when you go out, don't wear fancy things, don't go out at night, try to not use a lot of taxis... that kind of stuff.

One more things, whether you go or not, tell your fiancé to not listen to the people outside the consulate that pretend to be 'officers' they even have fake badges and they'll try to confuse him and take as much money off him as they can. If they are not inside the consulate/clinic gates, they are fakes!

Good luck!

And if you take the baby, be SURE that it has a passport.

A baby that is a US citizen needs a passport to cross into Mexico by air and a birth certificate to cross by land.

I wouldnt go if I were you... it doesnt make a difference and Juarez is one of THE most dangerous cities in the WORLD. More civilians are killed in Juarez than Baghdad! Dont put your baby at risk for moral support in a hotel room, he will be fine.

Thank you for your replies. Our daughter already has a US and Mexican passport so she is ready to go! Now, we are just waiting for her dad. :-) At first, I hadn't planned to go with him. But, I have read many stories of the US petitioner going to Juarez with the fiancé, so I started to second guess our plan. Proving a relationship should be easy for us - both names on our daughter's birth certificate, photos, letters from family and friends, etc. Since I don't currently work or live in the US, the I-134 is another story.....

Good luck to everyone!

Despite the danger of the city, this may be a good decision. Its common to be asked if your fiance is in Juarez for the interview, even though he cannot even enter the consulate. It really impresses the person giving the interview if the fiance is there. Also as for the I-134 just get a co-sponsor and you should be ok. Juarez doesn't put too much beef into the financial part, but have the co-sponsor and whatever proof you can get to be safe.

I did not go when my husband (then fiance) had his interview in Juarez. It is dangerous there, and neither of us really wanted me there. My daughter has health issues and was sick at the time as well. I sent a notarized paper explaining my absence, but that it in no way meant I did not support him or our relationship, etc. My husband was sort of grilled about me not being there, and when could I be there (asked this several times). He refused to look at the notarized letter I sent. Thankfully, he finally dropped it, and approved him anyway. Other people have never even been asked if their fiance was there with them or not. I think it depends on which interviewer you get.

You should get a co-sponsor to make sure your financial part is covered.
