I think the way people read it makes it sound purely American to them. My comments were about American women, so, to be specific, I had to call them what they are.

I hope that clears that up :D

The way you worded it made it sound like being a doormat is an exclusively American female trait. I agree that some of the women on this board or have been on this board have let themselves become doormats but a lot have not. They either nip it in the bud or eliminate the problem (the husband).

It's not purely love that's keeping her with her husband but I do believe that's what she thinks it is. Love, attachment, desire to keep her family intact, not wanting to feel like a failure, not wanting to hear I told ya so's, not wanting to feel foolish for spending time and money bringing her husband here, etc. I think it's all those things and probably more.

I'm not going to go around and around about this but in the original post you stated you didn't know what was wrong with American women. Not some so it reads as - all. You may have meant some. I get what you mean though. I used to have way more patience and love for bickering over technicalities but not so much anymore. lol.

I think the topic of red flags and what to look for in a good mate has been discussed ad nauseum around these parts. Some women will always make bad choices and some women will always go for cute, sexy, exotic, etc. instead of going for quality. Those are the ones that have repeatedly imported men from MENA and have failed repeatedly as well.

"The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Please don't accuse me of saying what I didn't say, and I most certainly did not say "all". For some reason, whenever the term "American women" is used in tandum with anything negative, some people's reading comprehension goes to hell. I'm not responsible for the interpretations of others, only for what I actually said. I'm glad we will not go around and around and that you understand what I mean coz nothing in my op was directed at all American women. Thanks.

It's the way you worded it:

I agree, we have read this a million times, but it makes me wonder what's going on with American women that so many will put up with this sh!t from any man, much less a man they spent tons of time and money to import only to discover he's a epic jerk.

Just sayin' . . .

This certainly seems aimed at American women in general. If that's not what you meant, good.

The subject is American women. What makes a couple of people see "all" or "some" is a difference between whether their emphasis is on what's in bold or what's in red, and that I have no control over.

I agree, we have read this a million times, but it makes me wonder what's going on with American women that so many will put up with this sh!t from any man, much less a man they spent tons of time and money to import only to discover he's a epic jerk.

The subject of the thread is an American woman.

But when you wrote:

...it makes me wonder what's going on with American women that so many will put up with this sh!t from any man, much less a man they spent tons of time and money to import only to discover he's a epic jerk

you've clearly suggested that there is something about *American women* that causes (in your words) "so many" to put up with such behavior. The second part of your sentence does not change the meaning at all.

If you meant to say "I wonder what would make an American woman put up with this from any man, much less a man they spent tons of time and money to import...etc etc." then it would make much more sense and most people would heartily agree.

I didnt write it while thinking of how two people would read it wrong. Maybe pictures work better for you.

i'm not seeing a single reportable thing here, that's just silly, and an abuse of the reporting system. all that was being asked for was some clarification. sometimes it can be tricky to understand another poster's context for their specific words-it's the nature of internet forums. there's nothing wrong with politely asking for context, or pointing out how certain wordings can be misconstrued. i found it a helpful, and necessary discussion.
