Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster :) I can seriously say without visajourney.com Max and I would have gone so far off course so many times, you all are a life saver!

Anyway, Max has received his interview date for next Tuesday and we are confused by the payment at Australia Post thing. What do we say to specify what we are paying for? Are there forms we need to fill out, who are we paying? As usual, the embassy is obscure and non-informative.

Also, not to put anyone on the spot but how horribly bad would it be to book airfare now for say 10 days to two weeks after the interview? With the way gas prices are skyrocketing we are trying to avoid a $3000 plane fare (already over 2000!). So far our visa process has been incredibly smooth and we haven't had a single hiccup but I don't to jinx the last and most important step.

TIA,

Rachel and Max

You just go to the post office and say you want to pay for a K1 visa (fiance visa) they will look up their little chart on line and you pay the $420 it was for me last year. They just give you back a standard receipt and you put that with all your documents on top lol, All K1 interviews are done on a Tuesday and if you are approved there and then he will get visa delivered Friday as they are sent out Thursdays. Once you go in go to the 10th floor first to check in then to the another level and then he will take a ticket and sit . Get called to first window hand over all his paperwork, sit back down then called to interview window and asked a few questions and that's it. If approved he will be told just tell him to watch what they stamp and do. I was a bit flustered and did not pay much attention to what he was doing all the time. And he leaves lol as he supplies a return express envelope you will get visa by the Friday as you have to sign for it. I flew Delta so not sure where you are flying to as in final destination but I got to LA one way for 1500 but that was September. Prices are a little high now as coming into summer here so shop around. Orbitz are really good or Delta direct but I have heard also about V Australia.

Thanks for all the answers! I think we've got the Australia Post thing down now, you guys are great!

I checked on Orbitz, Kayak, Qantas and Delta (live in ATL so Delta is usually cheaper) and it's all running around 2100-2500 one way which is, frankly, insane. That's for early April, late March time frame. I will check V Australia to LA and then see about a connector to Atlanta.

So you have to go to Atlanta same as I did, never fly on the weekend either Mon. Tues, Wed cheapest flights. There is a one way to LA Delta for $1081 march 28th. If you dont organise to get the connecting one you will wait ages at LA to get a flight to Atlanta. Another flight this is all through Orbitz one way to Atlanta $1241 stop over LA arrive 6,30 am connect to Atlanta 11.50am arrive Atl 7.20pm 5 hour lay over which is surprising how quick it goes I did that once my lay overs were 3 hours and this flight you just have to change planes and this is US dollars which should be close to the aussie one now . Just looked it is .99c so you don't lose that much which is good for you man when I came over it was 88c to the dollar.

$1,279 + $236 taxes & fees = $1,515 USD per person priceAssurance.png

Leave

You are GOOD Barbara!! Thank you for sending me some of your travel mojo! I think the 28th might be a bit early as his interview is the 22nd. I know both my mom and Max are having very bad vibes about booking anything in March just in case, but I'll check early April right now.

Side note, those airfares are from Sydney which is a 14 hour train ride or a $500 flight from where he is, I think that's the difference in price for us.
