Diversity Lottery Question

Hi All,

Someone recently asked me a question about the diversity lottery, and I didn't necessarily know the correct answer, so posting on here hoping she will get the info she needs.

If a MENA person applied for the diversity lottery in the past, will the consulate have a record of it? Will it impact the interview? Anyone know when it was computerized and how long the consulate will have records of it? Should a person going into a tough MENA consulate interview be worried about having applied for diversity lottery in the past?

A little more subjective question - is the diversity lottery such a common activity in MENA countries that it's reasonable a fiance forgot to mention it to his spouse? (according to the person who asked me, it was 5+ years ago).

Thanks

Just from my experience, my husband entered twice. I don't remember him telling me about it until after we were here in the States. They never brought it up at Casa.

Can I ask you ladies an off-topic question too? I'm not getting an answer in the NVC forum, and I really want to send out our AOS/IV packages today.

I'm a little confused on Part III - #8.......It has a box to check for "I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above"

I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above. (with a box to check)

Of course, I checked the box. But directly underneath is this (with boxes):

Yes No (Applicable only in cases with two joint sponsors)

Yes or not to what? Am I saying yes, that I am sponsoring him again? I don't get it. There is no question, it's just as you see with boxes next to them. The instructions don't say anything about it. I checked yes and printed it all out, but I'm questioning it because it doesn't make sense.

Sorry to put it in this thread, but I didn't want to start another one, as I already have one started in the NVC forum.

Hello Lisa been a long time, that's an easy one :D

If you are sponsoring the person in part 2 you should tick number 8 and the YES below it, if not then tick on the NO ( which is not applicable for you )

That's pretty much it, you did it right

Good Luck

Thank you so much Sam, you're always such a big help. It didn't make sense to me, like they were asking the same question twice, or maybe I am just thinking too much.......

Sorry again Meesha, but I knew I would get an answer here;)

Applying for the lottery is pretty common in some MENA countries such as Jordan, Egypt and Morocco... a lot less common in places like Kuwait or Dubai.

I have seen this question posed in other forums - "Would it have an impact on my fiance or spouse visa?" and the answer has been "no."

As far as "forgetting to mention it".....

As others have said, it is my understanding that it is fairly common. My husband signed up at least once before we knew each other and he had a very smooth interview experience in Casablanca and it was not mentioned. Due to other threads about this in the past we weren't very concerned about it being an issue, either. The questions they kept asking him over and over (at the various stages of the paperwork process within the embassy...not by the same person) were #1 Have you ever been married before? and #2 Do you have any family in the US?

usually a red flag, from what I understand....
