Wait time between sending Pkt 3 and Interview?

Hi everyone!

I sent in my (K1 Visa Process) Pkt 3 information on Feb 23 (Montreal Consulate received it Feb 24). On the Consulate's information page here on the site it says that it can take up to six months before receiving the invitation letter to book the interview? Then, reading here on the forums it seems it can take another 4 months before there is space in the schedule to actually have the interview? Is that accurate? Has that been everyone's experience recently?

I'm currently visiting my finace in the US on a visitor's visa that will expire at the end of May. I'm guessing I won't get my letter to invite me to book an interview date before I have to fly out of the US?

Thanks so much,

K1 Visa

Well, what you've read are all possibilities, I suppose, but what you can do in the meantime is call the Department of State (1-202-663-1225), give them your new case number and ask for an update for your case. As soon as they tell you Packet 4 has been sent, you are allowed to book an interview. It really shouldn't take six months - maybe 3 weeks is more realistic.

The interview dates are depressing though - when I checked yesterday, the first date offered was July 6th :(

April, 2009 - We met

May, 2009 - We wooed

June, 2010 - We got engaged, looking forward to a small August 2010 wedding

** Reality Check: K-1 Process**

July 22, 2010 - NOA1

**5 months of patient waiting**

December 29, 2011 - call around for information about delay

January 5, 2011 - RFE notice (first online status update yet!)

January 10, 2011 - RFE Hardcopy

January 13, 2011 - RFE Response acknowledged

January 24, 2011 - NOA2 (at last!!)

February 3, 2011 - application sent from NVC to Montreal (aka. the Abyss?)

March 7, 2011 - Packet 3 sent to me

March 10, 2011 - Packet 3 delivered to Montreal

March 21, 2011 - Packet 4 sent to me

April 5, 2011 - Medical

April 13, 2011 - Interview - approved!

April 20, 2011 - visa in hand

May 9, 2011 - POE (Buffalo, NY)

May 10, 2011 - wedding :)

Hey,

Where can I find out the available interview dates, or is that something I can not access until the Pkt 3 gets sent back to Montreal?

Well, I signed up here: https://usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/login - right up to the point of booking an interview (I don't have permission yet  ) and it tells me the next available date and time. From what I understand, there's no calendar to look at and pick a date from - it merely tells you the one earliest available date. Also, it seems like once you book, you can reschedule and at that point, the system might show you earlier dates based on cancellations that don't seem to be available to first-time bookers... I think...

Anyway, don't sign up for an interview until the DoS has told you Packet 4 has been sent... rules rules rules...

Just an update on this topic:

Called (and finally reached) DOS today and they said that Montreal is really behind and they "have not yet scheduled my interview or sent out Packet 4). I was advised to EMAIL the Consulate and ask for verification that they did receive Packet 3 and when Packet 4 is expected.

So....we wait...and wait...

Did they provide an email address? I'd like to get in touch with them for the same matter. I know my P3 was signed for last week but DOS has no trace of it yet.

SF2007: they said to use the Consulate email address provided in the Packet 3 instruction letter and on the website: Montreal-IV-DV@state.gov

And put your MTL Case number in the subject line!

Hope that helps!

Hi Iampatricias!!!

Silly question perhaps, , but can I ask why you are checking for interview dates when you have one booked on the 13th? are you so sweet checking for everyone else?

Aah, well, I wrote that message on March 12th - I signed up with the website after I heard P3 had been sent, and then couldn't help but check, even though I wasn't allowed to book. I didn't book my date until the last week in March.

Actually, I go back quite often to see if earlier or more convenient dates are available.

Once Montreal sends out your P4 you can go ahead and book your interview and medical.

Theres no need to wait for the P4 in the mail as it can take awhile.

Just keep calling the DOS for updates they can tell you when the P4 is sent.

That's what I did as well. I kept calling DOS every other day to ask if I was eligible to schedule an appointment with the consulate. On March 22, they told me I was a go and I booked it. I received my Packet 4 letter a week later. It was dated March 21... and had been mailed on March 24. It's this letter + your appointment confirmation email you need to take to your medical along with your medical paperwork.

For my case, it took 7 business days between consulate receiving my Packet3 and them logging it and mailing Packet 4. Unless they're anymore backlogged, I would expect the same time frame for you.

Good luck!
