I am frustrated with the U.S. Consulate in Montreal

Can you explain what was missing as far as "financial information" means? It's requested on my interview check list as well. I don't want to NOT bring something.

Congressman has a liaison. You talk to the liaison, you sign some papers and send them in. Then the person will look into your case and try to get answers from USCIS/ US embassy as to whats going on. It depends on the liaison and their contacts as to how good of a response you will get from the inquiry by them.

WHY? its all over VJ forums as to WHY as well as when you would contact your congressman or senator.

LOL, if I was " yelling " I would have typed the entire paragraph in capital letters. That is yelling. Capitals for a certain word is emphasis. Yelling is capitals on all the words, the entire paragraph.

OP, Montreal's mail room is rather behind- by weeks. So even though they received your documents, they are likely sitting in a mail room somewhere waiting for someone to pick them up and link them to your file. When you hit the one year mark of your interview, your documents weren't with your file, so they assumed you never responded.

I think the biggest mistake was cutting it so close to the 1 year mark. Of course, that isn't going to help now.

I agree that contacting your congressman would be the best way to get something done.

That could be but when I received the notice that I supposedly did not respond to their request a couple of weeks ago, the return address was the one I mentioned. They may have 2 mailing addresses now. Maybe one is a holding station like Canada Post explained to me.

I'm not sure WHEN exactly the US Consulate in Montreal changed their mailing address but according to their website (http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/montreal.asp)AND ( http://montreal.usconsulate.gov/content/content.asp?section=about&document=index) the address to send mail to is:

Again, let me stress, I have NO clue as to when they changed their mailing address but maybe that could be the reason for the delay.

Financial documents that he may have been missing:

Tax Transcripts for the Last three years;(Says Optional, but it definitely helps)

Tax Return for the most recent year;

W2 of most recent Tax Year;

*His written amount that he makes that Annual Year and made in the past three years on the I-864 page 3 and 4;

A Letter of Employment from his current Employer stating that he works, will continue working there, and how much he earns;

Assets of Petitioner. (Bank statement of bank account; More than one car owned)

*I have heard, that even if you think you sent everything in, they may not tell you until the interview day that you're missing paperwork. I believe you usually get called about an RFE, but sometimes it doesn't happen. I brought and did all of the above and I was fine. We did not have a second car though. Sorry I kept using HE since my husband was the USC in my case!)

But I would like to know what he was missing as well!

Back in 2010 when I went for my interview, the agent wanted to have more info on my sponsor's assets. I showed him her bank accounts and proof that she owns a home, however he wanted to have a list of all her assets and debts including proofs. He said I could opt to show them my sponsor's 08 Federal income tax return instead along with a filled out I-864 form. However her 08 return wasn't prepared yet. On January, 2011 I mailed them her 09 income tax return since the most recent tax year was now 2009. In a nutshell, you need to either show them your sponsor's total net assets or your sponsor's most recent income tax return with an I-864 form showing his or her current income as well as his or her income for the previous 3 years.

Makes sense. Here is my question. I sent in my taxes for 07-09. I haven't filled my taxes yet this year because I haven't got everything back yet. Should I still bring my W2 form although I havent filled my taxes for the 2010 tax year?

Yes you should but it would be better to have your 2010 income tax return ready, or if you can't then you should show them a list of your assets, ie bank accts, stocks, etc and net worth of your properties showing the mortgage debt and the appraised value of your properties.

Yeah, file your taxes online and have your SO take the printout with to the interview. Technically they shouldnt ask for it until April 15 (tax cut off), but I have seen stranger things happen.

I had my interview in March of last year and had my husbands 2006-2008 taxes and his w2 for 2009 and his employment letter, I didn't have an issue. I don't think they can ask for 2010 income tax until after April.

Actaully if your interview with the consulate is before April 15 then you would be ok with your 09 Fed return. Once you hit April 15, 2011 then you would have to show your 2010 Fed return.

I assume the financial documents was the sponsoring part, where the spouse has to make so much money and be able to be financially responsible for the visa holder.

Bring your W2! So you have a definite proof you have worked the past year! I do not believe they can ask for your 2010 tax stuff since it has not hit the cut off date.
