Ridiculous objectification of our SOs thread

I have noticed that in other sub-fora, there is to some extent what seems to me to be objectification or exoticisation of the one's partner as the Other, subject to the gaze of the (often American) poster. I would not presume to understand fully why this is so popular, because it seems to be a lot of hooey -- we love our partners for who they are not where they're from, right? Right?unsure.gif

To that end, I propose we try an experiment. I suggest that we in the UK sub-forum give it a shot. Let's see if we can develop our own take on this, and perhaps (indulge me, please) I can understand better why this is apparently so much fun. Here goes my shot (bearing in mind my UK SO is my ex now, but we are still friends):

When we lived in the UK, I loved nothing more than to see him striding manfully across the countryside in a waxed Barbour jacket, wellington boots, wide-wale cords and a chunky wool jumper. Then we'd repair to the pub for a few jars and a ploughman's, while we talked meaningfully about 19th century British politicians or the Second World War.

Have a bash at it -- let's see if we're any good at this malarkey.laughing.gif

D'oh. I was promised pictures of women and pork chops!!!!!

Naughty, naughty, Rob.

Now, play along and tell us why Canadian women outclass all others. I want to hear a Tim Hortons-cum-pea bacon fantasia here.

I want to play, too! :)

May I?

I, the USC petitioner, am a naturalized US citizen. I am a female native of Mexico. I DO NOT like Mexican men, at all. At least those who I can easily find in the US; the undocumented, uneducated, rural, and traditional kind. Plus, I do not like their general looks.

I also did not like American men, at least not the conventional type. You know, the type that will spend the weekend drinking beer glued to the TV watching football. I LOVE to dance, so I decided to go to the DR because I had met a couple of dancers from the DR who were fabulously good and told one of them, "I need to go to your country!"

So, I went to the Dominican Republic,I was in paradise! I had never been to a place where I could see so many beautiful men! Yes, the tall, dark, handsome, and strong type. Better yet, great dancers of merengue and bachata! When I met my SO I was quite happy to have a Dominican adventure, but I never thought I would fall in love and neither did he. What a great surprise! We both have similar life goals, are the same age, are social butterflies who like to go out, have a good time, and dance. We are good for each other. We can be passionate lovers, dance the night away, and then stay quietly at home doing laundry and cooking. We both want to help each other create the life we want. Ah... love is great! :D

I find all Canadian women to be unique, outspoken, adventurous and highly intelligent. And I haven't even gotten to the objectifying part yet. Now if only they would agree that these are smartees:

And this is Macaroni and cheese (not Kraft Dinner):

That's all fine and dandy, but do you love Mel for her Kraft Dinner or in spite of it?

I think we need a term, a new term -- maybe Anglophone Hotties? Anglophone Angels?

I want to play, too! :)

Absolutely, but keep in mind it's probably going to be a bunch of people from the UK and Canada posting in here.laughing.gif

Anglo hotness?

:D

You know, when I went to London I very much looked forward to seeing the hot anglophone Londoners and hearing their sexy accents. But, alas! It seemed as though most people in London were foreigners who lived and worked there...

Well, Anglophone rules out about 20% of Canadians, but they are the ones who are mean to me anyways..... :hehe:

My SO finds the U.S. a wonderland! English men fall over themselves when they see the glory that is the United States of America--vast riches, big cars, gigantic microwave ovens, sunshine, and barrels of ibuprofen. Once they arrive in the States, their families demand that they immediately send back such American delicacies as Milwaukee's Beast Light, Hershey bars, and Wonder Bread--all of which would remain intact following a nuclear meltdown and thus travel well. You ladies married to Brits, you know what I'm talkin' about? Can I get a Hallelujah?

HALLE-EFFIN-LUJAH! I'm working on my third British husband now -- can't stand the lack of pale skin in my life. :( I need MUCH more whingeing, though I still get it from the ex on a daily basis. It's a poor substitute for the daily top up in person.
