Well, where is your fiancee? Which service center (Vermont or California) did your information go to?

The short answer is, "nobody knows" and there are absolutely no guarantees. We heard "5-7 months" so from our receipt date at the end of July, we thought maybe we'd manage to be together by Christmas or January, but we don't even have an interview yet and now I'm not sure we're going to have a visa until May or June because our consulate is so so slow.

If the USCIS issued an NOA for the receipt of your I129f petition December 17th, the best case scenario, with no problems or delays, is a petition approval in 6 months. From there, your application has to get to your fiancee's consulate, and that process varies from country to country, but generally takes no less than 6 weeks. Still, I would not make any firm plans until you have an interview date, and even after that, it is risky...

If the ceremony is going to be in her country then why do you need an exact date when she's going to come to the US? Even if she got her visa tomorrow, she'd still have six months to use it. Figure you've got five or six months for the petition approval, a couple of months before the interview, and then six months to use the visa. That gives you a pretty big window to plan your ceremony.

Be aware that in some countries having anything that even resembles a wedding ceremony can be a show stopper at the interview. At some consulates, if they think you had a traditional wedding then they'll say you aren't eligible for a fiancee visa, and tell you to get your traditional wedding registered and refile for a spousal visa. Check the regional forum for your fiancee's country to see if any sort of wedding ceremony is advisable.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Make sure they do not mistake it for a real ceremony..

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png
