Tax issue driving me crazy!!

Hey guys, I'm trying to get together our taxes using Turbo Tax and I'm running into an issue I hope someone might know how to deal with. I've done a search but havent been able to find anything.

I'm trying to claim my EI as a foreign tax credit. When I go into foreign income, it gives me 4 options for how I got my info - On a w2, that im self employed or its on a 1099-misc, a statement from the employer, or as a schedule k-1. I chose statement from employer, and put in all the info, but when I get to the deduction part its not actually asking me about any of the taxes I paid. Should I be putting the t4 in as if its a w2 instead? It won't let me not put in the EID, and a bunch of stuff on there is just not right...I really don't know what to do, completely lost. Trying to get this done ourselves to save money from going to H&R, but I'm missing something.

never mind, finally found it! Incase anyone else has this issue when you try to file, here ya go

This applies if you earn foreign wages and cannot exclude all your wages. Then you can get credit for part of your foreign income tax paid.

Go to Federal Taxes/Deductions and Credits/Estimates and Other Taxes Paid/Foreign Taxes

Continue/Continue/Continue/Take a credit

Continue

Now you should be at the "Income from foreign countries" screen. Select "Done" (even though you aren't yet).

Now you are at "Need to report income", choose No to not continue here (even though you want to).

Now you should be at "No other income or Expenses". Select "No"

You should now be at "Completing Forms 1116"

Continue/Continue. Choose "General category income" and Continue.

Now you should be able to start adding countries and reporting income and taxes paid in them. Show the form 1116 at the same time to see if it makes sense.

When exactly do T4's come out this year? I have all of our US tax documents to file our taxes, but I am waiting on his T4 so that I can put in his foreign income. He keeps telling me they aren't out yet.

Are they out? And if not, when do they come out?

Thanks!

By law they have to be out by Feb 28th. A lot of companies wait until the last payday in Feb. & include it with the paystub. Some companies are very good & get it out at the beginning of Feb. I'm still waiting for mine!
