So even though my wife has been a Canadian citizen for over a year and a half.. since she was born in India and lived there for the first 18 years of her life, is it safe to assume that she too will be in AP after her interview on 4/26?

It's very difficult to predict AP. It's better to prepare for AP, means do not make any plan till get passport in hand.

If you follow this forum then it seems people who born outside Canada get AP but not everyone.

I gave my passport to the consulate at my interview, and they held on to it, congratulated me, gave me my welcome letter, and said I should receive my passport back "in about a week". This morning's phone call to the DoS might've been a mistake though because DHL just emailed me to say they have my passport and it'll be ready in the next few days.

I was born in Holland and have a Dutch passport, and Canadian permanent residency.

I called DOS and they mentioned that "My case is still in AP in Consulate".

I asked him again that my case is still in Consulate. DOS officer said - Yes.

It surprised me that consulate holding so long without sending the case to other authorities for some check.

My wife was also born in India like you and moved to Canada in 2005. She became a Canadian citizen at the end of 2009. Her interview was last Tuesday and they mailed back her passport on Thursday.

It's wierd how they do AP for some cases while dont for others.
