Currently.... they have issued Ice the incorrect GC and we have tried 4 times to fix it. First time they had us send it to the incorrect address. Second time they said we used an expired form, which was the form they gave us. Third time was "oh sorry we lost the last page, can you send it again?." Fourth time is the gov is shut down. Will this ever be corrected in time for Ice to get the permanent GC? Stay tuned to find out. T_T

I hate double posting, but does anyone know how to get police certificates in Chiang Mai and in the US? Because I know he'll eventually need it, so he wants to get it now in Chiang Mai, but we're not sure where to go. And because he lived in the US for more than a year, I have to figure out where to get one for him here. Him and his student visa sponsor are not on good terms, so I don't know if that will affect obtaining the certificate or even getting medical records....

Niing, Ice will have to get his police report in Bangkok but if he lives in Chiang Mai he can get his medical done there or Bangkok. You will not need anything for the US because they can see he lived here before and they can do their own searches. I'm not if they would contact his sponsor about the student visa or not. If you need the address for the police report or the hospitals where he can get his medical done in Chiang Mai you can find it here at visa journey under the portals and thailand embassy info or let me know if you cannot find it. He can only get the police report in Bangkok.

I think this is the place to ask multiple questions so you are good to ask. Good luck and let us know if you got anymore questions.

Pui's family would like someone from her family to be here for our wedding. They want her brother to come here. He is 32, he has a job and has mortgage on his house. Will it be hard for him to get a tourist visa to come to the wedding? What documents should he bring to the interview? Something like a letter from his boss saying he has x week off and is do back to work x date, mail showing he owes money every month for his house and any other bills that come to the house? Any other suggestions? Thanks everybody.

I guess it will be very hard, especially if the brother is not married.

A young Bolivian guy who stayed at my wife's house in Thailand as an exchange student

had his visa to the US denied recently. I think the reason they gave him was that he

wanted to stay for 2 months. He was in high school in Thailand 10 years ago,

and is near the age of my wife's son. His family is very rich (so that's no guarantee

of getting a visa) and he owns his own business.

In any case we will meet him in Thailand this summer as he is planning to travel there first.

Another Lèse-Mjesté arrest

JOE GORDON THAI NAME LERPONG WICHAIKHAMMAT

IDENTIFIED AS THE 54-YEAR-OLD AMERICAN MAN

ARRESTED IN THAILAND ON CHARGES OF

INSULTING COUNTRY'S MONARCHY

An American citizen is currently making headlines in for his important arrest as the recent statement from Thai authorities, which surfaced hours before in Thailand,

claimed that the American citizen was actually found involved in insulting the monarchy of this Asian nation and therefore has been arrested on these charges, sources said.

Thai authorities further claimed in their statement that a link was actually posted by this American citizen on his website which was actually insulting

the monarchy of Thailand, sources said. This in-discussion link was posted nearly four years ago by this American national, authorities said.

The background of this arrest of the American citizen in Thailand is being described as that a banned book's link was promoted

by this person on his blog which actually was related to the ailing king of this Southeast Asian nation, sources said.

But the arrested person (or you may say American citizen who is being described as a 54-year-old man) straight away denied these charges.

Prachatai.com is a locally renowned (Thai language-based) news website that spread this news and claimed that the Thai authorities

also placed violating Computer[ Crimes Act of Thailand charges as well as inciting unrest charges over this man.

Hopefully he will get a pardon from the king.

When I was living in CM, a german was caught extremely intoxicated and spray painting over the face of the king on posters. If I remember correctly he was given 10 years but within 2 weeks he was pardoned and sent on his way back to Germany.

This guy, by being Thai, may be in for a different ending.

Thanks. My future brother-in-law is unmarried. He would only stay for 1 or 2 weeks. I'm hoping he will be able to get the visa. I know last year a thai friend was able to get a tourist visa to here but she had been here before working as an au pair and had no overstay. At the time she was 29 years old unmarried and lived at home with her parents with a full time job. I remember she was supposed to have her interview in May 2010 but that was when the protests were and the embassy got closed. She had to go back in June and wait in a HUGE line outside the embassy on her new interview day.

edit to add he would only stay for 1 or 2 weeks.

I use skype. I was able to purchase an unlimited plan to thailand every month back in 2009 but they no longer offer an unlimited and I got grandfathered into it and still have it. Skype is nice because I can from my cell phone to thailand and not have to use a computer if I do not want to and I can get the phone logs VERY easy with plan to show to the embassy. Google voice is only charging .03 cents to thaliand. Not sure if anybody else knows of anything cheaper. Another thing that has helped Pui and I in the last year is we both have blackberrys and we use the blackberry messenger a lot to but I do not like the logs from it to show proof of on going relationship. The nice thing about the blackberry messenger is as long as you pay for the blackberry service it is free to type back and forth.

AaronLV, I have always thought skype was pretty clear.

It can be clear, but not consistently. I get a lot of delay with it. I have a 20Mb/5Mb connection at home also, so bandwidth on my side is not a problem. It gets worse when I talk to my friend in China it is even worse than calling Thailand. With the service from mobile caller, I can get a consistent clear, non-delayed connection. So it has just works better for us.

Yeah. I did think of a few times when it has not been clear. That happened when I used skype from my computer called Pui and then she had me conference in somebody else using skype, the person I added had a hard time hearing Pui and I. I am curious what other people think of skype or what other services they use to call thailand.

@Andy- Yeah I have the Unlimited world plan, which makes it only 14 dollars for unlimited calls to Ice, and it doesn't cost him anything (love Thailand's cellohone rule that makes the receiver never have to pay). Sometimes I have weird problems with it, like random loud beeps, his voice breaking up, or dropped calls. But when I was in Thailand and my parents would call us using Skype, I could see that on his side, it's very clear. Which makes me think that it's just Thai phone service to US that makes the voice break up.

Has anyone used gmail phone? I think it's about the same rate as Skype, since for the unlimited plan to Thailand, they have a fair usage policy. Ice and I used to use it to the max, which is 6 hours a day. Yeah, I know that's kind of insane... We narrowed it down to 3 hours a day since I got back.

@Aaron- How much does mobilecaller cost?

It is pretty much the US is the ONLY(ok I am sure there are a few countries out there but not many) country that does not allow incoming calls for free. I have never gone over skype's fair usage but I think a few times I have been close. If you two are talking 6 hours a day on the phone and you both have an internet connection and at your computers at the same time you should try and hang up and use the free skype to skype calling from the computer and not use your minutes.

I remember with sprint back in the late 1990's the FIRST incoming minute was free but they changed that a LONG time ago
