Going on a cruise question?

My wife and I are going on a cruise this summer. Her sister is making her annual trip over for the summer and we are going to take her with us on the cruise. Will she have any problems with her passport and visa either entering other countries or reentering the U.S.A. I think everything should be fine but I would just like to verify with people who have done something like this before.

Many thanks in advance B-)

Hi!!! oooh! I got so excited when I saw your post because my honey proposed to me on a cruise ship!!! He had absolutely no problem with passport requirements. He was only asked to show his passport when leaving the U.S. and entering the U.S. at customs. Other than that...all ok! If you're stopping multiple destinations it could be different. We only visited Bahamas. But it was magical!!! I hope you have a BLAST!!!

Woohoo!!!

Depends on what type of visa she is coming on if she can enter the US multiple times on the same visa. Also, do not assume, check with each port of call you will go to and verify if she will need a visa for that country. Every country has its own rules on visas. US citizens and green card holders of the US usually can go about anywhere for a short term (well russia is an exception). Russian passport holders typically unless they have a green card need visas.

Might be better if her cruise ticket is booked through a Russian travel agency BEFORE she gets her US Tourist VISA or applies. (this might be tough too depending on the cruise line) They will know all this stuff and do all the legwork for you and it will be a hassle, well worth the money. If the country the cruise stops at doesn't have a Consulate in Russia, it might be an issue of time to mail passports back and forth for VISA's. She needs multiple entry VISA for the US, so make sure this is spelled out in her Tourist VISA request, along with all the other documentation you will have to provide to prove she is really going back.

My wife and I went on a cruise a few years ago. Of course she had a green card so it was not an issue , but we checked with the cruise line to be sure. Could be an issue with a Russian visiting with a tourist visa. To be honest, there were no passport checks at any of the islands we stopped at. Call the cruise line to be sure.

Assuming she has a mulit-entry tourist visa which is pretty standard she should have no trouble reentering the USA. The cruise ships generally have an agreement with the ports of call and I doubt she will have much of a problem with visas at the ports of call. I have done a few cruises and the only place my passport was checked was re-entering the cruise ship. I think it will be fine. It won't hurt to call the cruise line and ask them. Some of the people you may talk to at the cruise lines can be a little clueless but if you find the right person you should be ok. If we knew the ports of call on the cruise it might help answer your questions better but without knowing I think it won't be a problem.

We've been on a few cruises since my wife has been here and had no problems...she showed her Green Card to the cruise line when we boarded and then once again to get back in the USA and that was it. When you check in they typically give you a cruise card and that's all you need to exit the ship and get back on in each country you visit. Sometimes, depending on the country, they tell you to have your passport/GC/etc. with you but in our experience, no one ever asked to see anything but the cruise card. So probably your only concern, like others said, is your visa for the USA. Have fun....cruises are great!!!
